Ever wondered what happened to Jake Murphy?

Jake Murphy was a "highly touted" WR recruit a few years back from American Fork High School. I even recall him being a 4 star recruit on someone's recruiting site. Well anyway, there have been rumors for a while now that he was going to try and go to Utah after his mission, (which he just completed). Well as of yesterday he was seen at the Utes practice, so I'm going to guess and say that, that's probably what's going to happen. This doesn't bother me much as I thought it would, considering I've seen him play in high school multiple times, he's numbers are a little scewed, seeing as he had the ball thrown to him so many times, and because there was nobody at AF that even compared to Jake, but we also already have the guys in our system that will be "the guys" for the next couple of years, So I'm not dogging on him or saying that he's bad or anything, but it will be interesting to see if he'll amount to anything up at the U, where they already seemed to be pretty set at WR.

It's nice to have such talented and "highly regarded" WR's on the team but BYU has won for decade with unknown WR's who made incredible plays so this doesn't sting. I will say I am very excited to see these WR's we have perform. Our other WR's would make the catch and be tackled, the ones we have been getting the past six years or so were fast enough to actually burn the defender in a footrace.

I read in the Trib this morning that he was at the Pukes practice and was intending on playing there. Murphy stated that while on his mission he "had a change of heart" concerning playing at BYU. This type of stuff happens all the time. We get some of the Pukes players, they sometime get ours. No hard feelings, I wish him the best. I wish he would have come back to the Y, but his loss.

The Murhpys have kept pretty quiet about the whole thing but there's speculation that he wasn't happy that BYU wouldn't have a scholarship for him this fall. However, he wasn't supposed to return home from his mission prior to the start season either so it is reasonable for BYU to not have one waiting for him until winter. Some have also wondered if he saw the depth at TE and decided he'd be better off at Yewtah but I tend not to believe that as much since he could have played and starred at any number of positions and actually had a couple of BCS offers prior to his mission as I recall and none from the pukes.

We simply outrecruited the talent at TE and WR and Murphy became insignificant on our team.



His only chance was at outside linebacker; and we'd have just as easy a time recruiting one.



We simply don't have a lot of positions on this team anymore where we're wasting scholarships. That wasnt' the case toweards the end of Lavells era and Crowton had a boatload full of kids that weren't major D1 caliber.



I can't think of 5 kids on this BYU team right now that don't deserve their scholarships; simply because Bronco has nailed recruiting. He wants guys that want to be here, and when that happens... guys stick for the most part.

Meh, good luck to him, I hope he has fun playing college ball, I know that I would have loved to.

If anything we could of used him in baseball. I mean come on he is the son of Dale Murphy. The best part of all of this is I have a good friend who is a ute fan and he would always make sarcastic comments about Murph like " Hey how's BYU's talented 4 star recruit Jake Murphy?" basically just knocking on him any way he could because he also knows Jake pretty well and like me he doesn't really believe he's totally deserving of his recruiting stars, but I was happy to be the one to break the exciting news to him.

Hate to lose a good one to the Yewts. But, we're stacked @ his positions. I wish him well - when he's picking himself up off the turf & looking up @ a Cougar jersey. Bam!
