Great article. Stories like this remind me of 2 other BYU QB stories. The first is of a kid from PA who was eighth on the depth chart, and called his Dad to say he was coming home. His dad told him that he had made a commitment, and that he was going to keep it. He kept trying, and turned into Steve Young. You might call it a happy ending.
The second is of Sean Covey, who was so hyped comming in, that while on his mission, he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated as the "air apparent" to the great BYU QB dynasty. He came home and became the starter, only to have a fellow by the name of Detmer take away the job. He stayed and played backup, and was Ty's greatest cheerleader.
I guess we have another one of those stories in Brenden Gaskins giving up the #2 spot last year for the good of the team.
That is the kind of attitude that it takes to have a championship team. For some, it works out so that they have great success on the field. For others, the blessings come in other forms, but all are an inspiration to those who follow them, both on the field, and as fans.
I'm glad that he is staying and tickled that he has found another love. I hope for the very best for him and hope that we get to see him on the field in some capacity where his star will have a chance to shine. There is always a way to use greatness. :) (And you never know when there might be a need to go deep into the depth chart, and we may all be very glad that he stayed--I hope Munns stays too).
