If BYU stays, who to add?

I'm not diggin' the idea of Utah State in the MWC, but many here may be.

I just wanted to see an answer in vote form to who we want and how many want them...

Houston is the only real option that potentially could add an new media market.

True. And more importantly to me, of the choices above, they bring the #1 football strength rating. Whereas Utah State is the absolute worst choice listed above.

I had to go with Utah State. Of course they bring a rotten program into the MWC. But I think there is value to loyalty. They had our back when first asked to bolt the WAC. That's gotta mean something. In reality, it's gotta mean more than power, glory, recognition, or ranking. If not, our heads are not screwed on right and I fear we worship the god of football more than the example of Christ.

The best answer is to not stay in the MWC. Then the question is moot.

Utah St didn't have our backs. They didn't have the money to buy their way out of the WAC and into the MWC. Their whole, we've got BYU's back, we've got integrity is all spin. If they had the means, or ability to jump to the MWC they would have.

That's interesting you say that because rumors being reported today is that Utah St is in a second round of talks with the MWC for an invite.

I don't believe for a second that Utah State was ever officially extended an invitation to join the Mountain West.

I think you are right that they were not "officially" extended an invite but they were certainly approached by the MWC about joining and they declined, and now it looks as if they are getting a second chance to change their mind.

I have to agree. I think Houston brings the most to the conf but just for the reason of USU being resolute throughout this process (face it they had the most to win by jumping conferences and instead may end up with the shaft). I like to reward loyalty over just dollars. In the long run you usually come out ahead anyways. In BBall they would be the best add outside of Gonzaga joining as Bball only - hmmm an interesting thought - could we have a bball only side to the conf too? (Big East of the West) Creighton, Gonzaga, St Mary's, Oral Roberts ...

I think you are right that they were not "officially" extended an invite but they were certainly approached by the MWC about joining and they declined, and now it looks as if they are getting a second chance to change their mind.

I think they were probably the MWC first choice since they do have the best BBall team in the WAC and that is why BYU was considering the WAC.

This can't happen in the MWC with the current by-laws of the conference. They state each school has to participate in the 4 core sports and football is one of those sports, so any team from the WCC or elsewhere that doesn't have a football team can't join. (please no Utah St jokes here!)

I think it's funny that when it comes to Utah St. everyone talks about loyalty, values, etc. as a reason to take them, but when it comes to BYU, it has nothing to do with values, pride, self-worth, etc. it just should be the best business decision regardless of tucking our tail between our legs or showing that we're a transparent, gelatinous jellyfish with no spine.

Like it wrote in another thread, it just takes a vote to change that. How hard was the Fresno and Nev votes to arrange and get?

Houston brings with it recruits from the state of Texas and more exposure for BYU in the Big 12. It's a no brainer.

The $5 million doesn't apply anymore once any one (or two?) of the original "signatories" of the poison pill announced intent to leave the conference. Whatever happens, if BYU does end up in the MWC, they better have no part in paying the $10 million due to the WAC (which I assume will continue, because that $10 million in the WAC's coffers can be used to attract/promote a few schools to the FBS).

It's the MWC's decision of who to invite, not BYU's. BYU didn't even have a say in bringing UNR and Fresno, so let's be a little careful before we start calling BYU board of trustees (aka, the Apostles) idolatrous worshipers of false gods.

The conference as an entity has no interest in following the example of Christ.

I agree, but BYU is in the drivers seat right now and if they request to invite Utah St then the conference will seriously look at adding them to keep BYU, their cash cow, in the herd.
