The Mountain West would be stronger with BYU, which is probablythe conference’s most visible member.

Seriously, it's unbelievable to listen to everyone's drivel about how BYU is arrogant and not as important as we think. The MWC is doing nothing but repeating the history of the WAC. The WAC did everything they could to keep BYU happy - and when they expanded to 16 teams, and then BYU bolted, it was the demise of the conference. Same will hold true with the MWC, and Thompson knows it. He was on the verge of becoming a BCS qualifier. Once BYU is gone the MWC will go the way of the WAC - irrelevant.

The good thing here is that the University Presidents have a job to do, and are paid to think clearly. They will not get as emotional as local fans, and and not write articles that incite, like local media members do for ratings. Simply put, their job is to act in the best interests of their university, and everyone at that table knows having BYU in the MWC is in the best interests of the MWC. The TV deal is in place for years, and it's value gets drastically diminished with no BYU, so Comcast is forced to finally deal with this, unless Comcast wants BYU gone so it can low ball the rest of the teams. I doubt it.. The thing that really cracks me up is how many writers actually think that this is a new issue, and BYU is acting rashly. BYU has harped on this, along with Utah, for YEARS. BYU had investigated options for YEARS. BYU is acting now because Utah is gone an dBYU needs to improve their situation competitively. Pretty simple really.
