Chris Tunis RIP

Long-time local sports broadcaster Chris Tunis just died from cancer.

Part of Chris's career was spent with KSL and BYU, including a stint hosting the Lavell Edwards coach's show, and mentored Greg Wrubell as he began his career in broadcasting. When I arrived in Utah in 1995, he was a main host at the then Jazz station 570 AM, the culmination of his career. After that station lost its contract with the Jazz to 1320, it sort of crumbled, and his last ten years have been spent in more minor broadcasting roles.



Chris was my introduction to sports talk radio--quite the pioneer, and I offer my condolences to his family. He was only in his mid fifties.

I remember him on 570 and liked his show. He was probably a bit more vanilla then the morons we have now on morning shows but was a much better journalist then what we currently have. He will be missed.

This really is a sad day, Chris was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I know you hear this all the time about people, but he would never have anything bad to say about anyone. He taught me more about how to be a caring person in the time that I worked for him than anybody I have been associated with.



I will absolutely miss him and my prayers go out to his family.

R.I.P. Tuner... you were the man! :) Yep, sports radio 570 are my memories of him, not to mention doing the college gameday score update reporting for KSL during football games. The man was classy and very mild-mannered with those who called into his show... a class act!
