Jake and Riley both got two series (one each against the ones and twos). The First Defense faced all of seven plays. The Second Defense faced 18.

Day 14 Stats:

Heaps: 7-7-0-62, 0 TDs, 174.40 rating, 100% complete. 1 TD Drive

Nelson: 4-6-0-40, 0 TDs, 122.67 rating, 66.7% complete, 1 FG Drive

I gave the scoring edge a push, similar to Saturday when both QBs scored once. Today it was flipped with Jake getting the TD drive and Riley the FG. But I gave the passing edge to Jake for his perfect completion day. Both QBs led nine-play drives that ended in scores on the Second defense.

Fall Camp Stats:

Heaps: 95-158-3-1020, 13 TDs, 137.71 rating, 60.1% complete. 16 TD drives, 2 FG drives

Nelson: 83-136-2-919, 14 TDs, 148.82 rating, 61.0% complete, 17 TD drives, 6 FG drives

Also of note, Jake passed the 1000 yard mark in fall camp. I don't know if that's significant or not.

Whats your gut telling you about who will start against our dawgs? Do you really think Bronco will run two QB's?

Get ready for both. At this point, I don't think there's any way either one gets significantly more playing time than the other. Who starts may be down to a coin flip.

both QB's are usually completing over 50% of their passes, yet there have been lots of punts and 3-and-outs... is our running game to blame for that?

What running game?

If Harvey was still in the backfield, you could afford to maybe start Jake, but with no run game to help keep defenses honest, how can you start a true freshman who is immobile? Riley will get the nod as the starter at least through the first 3 games (IMO). The Cougs are gonna need his scrambling ability, especially against the Huskies and 'Noles, although, it won't matter who starts against FSU... that one is gonna be ugly from start to finish and it probably won't be hard for the Seminoles to match last year's 54 point outting in Provo, whereas BYU will be lucky to get to 20 in that one. And, they won't be able to keep up with Washington on the scoreboard either.

Yes, they will both play. But only because they are so different, making it hard to prepare for. Think Chris Leak and Tim Tebow at Florida. One guys is a drop back passer, the other more run first, throw 2nd. And he coaches are putting in plays to suit each strengths, too. Good change of pace, should 1 guy struggle in a game, as well. Both are gonna play, and I expect Nelson, not Heaps, to start. By game 4 or 5, I think the job will be Heaps.

It won't matter who is starting for games 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11... should be wins, although, Air Force may pose a small threat this year. And, by the same token, it won't matter who starts for games 1, 3, 7 and 12... they will be losses either way.

Well, you made your prediction, I am making mine. Neither FSU or WAshington will get 30 points on our defense. I don't know how the offense will do this year but our defense is going to be very tough. I think if our offense can manage 20 points in either of those games we win. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Airwolf.

Fried Butter... how are ya? Hope all is well! If BYU holds Washington and FSU to 30 or less and the Y offense gets 20 or more against both schools, I'll buy you a $7.00 LES burrito! ;)

Airwolf, your Ute D couldn't contain Bingham High this year. Ask Coach Whit. Game 12 is a W for BYU, easily. And Jordan Wynn will be useless again after Pendleton rocks him again. The kid is made of glass.

Don't worry, I won't hold you to that agreement when you are proved wrong.....once again.....too many times for me to count.

Besides, when you are living in a trailer down by the river, he couldn't afford one if he wanted to honor his agreement....

My gut is that the Coaches would still love the opporutnity to RS Jake. But they're smart enough to realize you don't keep talent on the bench. You RS guys who clearly need the time to prepare (like Fua who needs to add some lbs.) and are not ready for live action. Jake has shown that he is or shortly will be ready for live action.

I think Riley starts against Washington. I think Nelson and Heaps are told later this week how they will be used. I expect Jake to get 3-4 series against Washington (and probably against the first few opponents as well).

My gut is that it doesn't matter who starts. Both guys are going to play. And as was stated in this thread, our defense is going to be more than sufficient for UW's offense and Locker. BYU coaches have shown a great tendency of being able to prepare for opening offenses. They've done nothing but come up with gameplans to stop running QBs like Locker.

BYU will be at home and that's going to me a lot more comfort for our young and talented players.

Proved wrong time and time again, which is why many of you despise me, right?

Right. Because every time you are proven wrong you try to explain how you were almost right. PS you still owe me a krispy kreme donut from last year remember...

We despise you because of your constant drum beat of negativity. You said that you were going to "be good" this time so that you didn't get banned for the 13th time in 12 months. Well it took you all of 2 days to say that BYU would be "lucky" to hold FSU to 54 points, with absolutely no data to support the statement. You also said that BYU's defense would not be able to stop WA as well with no data to support that statement. Well, you made your prediction, I have made mine, we will see who is more acurate.

Not a good idea.

Locker, as a sophomore two years ago, got 27 points on the Cougs and only lost by one point to BYU in the Huskies' worst season ever (0-12). I'm sure this time around with Locker as a Senior, loaded at WR and being a Heisman trophy contender will be no problem too.

Just like against Christian Ponder and FSU last season, right?

Hmmm, FSU was not the opening offense that BYU faced. Is locker better then Oklahoma's offense was last year. Wasn't 3 of their offensive players taken in the top 10 of the NFL draft last year. This is why you get banned Airwolf.
