This will probably come out shortly, and no I cant document my source yet. But, according to reports from a person very very close to the situation, here is what happened on the MWC conference call where Fresno and Reno were invited to the MWC.

President Samuelson was on the phone call prior to the vote for the invites to Fresno and Nevada. Apparently he hung up prior to the vote. Prior to hanging up though, Samuelson was extremely irate and less than moderate in expressing his opinion to the remaining conference members about how they were ruining BYU's plans. The source stated that it was an awkward and embarrassing situation, similar to a tantrum thrown by a child when they dont get their way. There was yelling, anger, and a lot of accusing.

OK, so first off, I hope this is not true. This could never look good for BYU or the church.

Secondly, if it is true, what does the church do with the situation? Could this be the possible reason for the time that has lapsed since anything has been stated by BYU?

Before I get any BSU this, BSU that responses, my source is very reliable.

Thoughts?

I thought that Samuelson left the conference call during the discussions about the current broadcast tv arrangements and before the BYU independence/MWC expansion issues were even raised?

you could be correct, I am not sure about the timing of when he hung up, etc. I just got info about what I wrote above, but not sure on the exact timing of things...

westidahocougar is a BOISE State fan trolling here. Seriously, that recital of facts is laughable. Absolutely laughable, which is why you have no source. There isn't one. Boise State sucks, are butt hurt because they thought they finally made it in a league with BYU, and are acting like a jilted lover not that this is going down. Hey Donkie boy, get over it. BYU holds the cards, Boise State does not, and BYU is finally leveraging itself as it should.

Cite a source or retract this drivel. It is libel and slanderous, and you know it.

Here is what your president said about what happened:

He says that after BYU left then conference call first and then the MWC discussed it's options in inviting teams.

Oh and this is what a post with an actual source looks like. You should try it out next time you try and post outlandish and slanderous claims.

Thanks for the heads up. Rather than bash my post why not answer my questions? What if this is true? I have it from pretty solid sources. Why do I need to cite my sources, nothing else on this site gets cited?

I am not trying to slander or be outlandish. I am just stating what I heard from a good source. My post was intended to create a dialogue about the situation, not be a "how to" on posting links. Thanks for your help though.

I wouldn't personally post such information without any confirmation on the source.

First off, who are the individuals that would have been party to this MWC conference call? Each of the nine presidents of the universities and the Commissioner I would think and maybe 1 or 2 other MWC officials. Which one of those individuals holding such positions are going to make a claim that Pres. Samuelson was, "...extremely irate and less than moderate in expressing his opinion to the remaining conference members about how they were ruining BYU's plans. The source stated that it was an awkward and embarrassing situation, similar to a tantrum thrown by a child when they dont get their way. There was yelling, anger, and a lot of accusing"?

I'm sorry, in my interactions with Pres. Samuelson, and comments I've heard of others, he is about as far from such a quote as anyone can be. I'm sorry too, I just don't see one of those 9-15 other individuals on that conference call coming out and making such a classless and derogatory comment.

My guess is that the possibilty of that happened as noted is about a 1 out of 10 if even that.

I'm sure your intention wasn't to be slanderous or outlandish, but the comments quoted in that link are not even close in what you are reporting. It kind of makes it a bit difficult to start a dialogue off of a statement that you have doubts was made as being stated.

As per the link Pres. Samuelson expressed some issues that I think were valid that I'm sure all the other conference teams did not like to hear and thank goodness that he stood up for BYU and our sitution.

OK I love the part that can be summarized as “what would you say if my lie is true" :D  :)

Seriously, re-read your post as n objective person. it has no facts listed, only the perception of another. And as we all know, different people perceive things differently. BYU's president probably said "unless we get some fairness in recovering the revenue we produce, we will be forced to explore all of our options. Someone listening to it could perceive it as "we're taking our ball and going home" and consider that to be "childish"

Stated another way, how do you expect an intelligent response to what some is alleged to have perceived, and which may or may not be true?

What I want to know is why did Pres. Samuelson leave?

Was he aware that the BYU indepenence was coming up and that the MWC would vote on inviting FSU and Nevada?

I am very disappointed to learn that BYU had no presence and no voice at all in the little dicussion that took place between conference presidents.

I have a source in the CDC that says there is a new virus that is so deadly it can kill you before you even come in contact with it?!? What if that's true?

Yeah. That's completely ridiculous. Discussing the "what ifs" of something that is unlikely to be true is a completely wasted operation. This is why you cite your sources; it makes the likelihood of it being true not only higher, but independently verifiable. And then we'll be inclined to talk about what ifs. Right now, however, I'd prefer talking about the what ifs of having Chambers as our starting QB than some hypothetical and sourceless Samuelson temper tantrum.

Also, what if we got invited to take the place of the :utard: in the PAC-10?!? Let's talk about that, guys! I have a source that says it's a done deal!

The difference between you posting things without sources and others on this board posting things without sources is that you have always shown trollish tendencies on this site. Your reputation precedes you. This means you have zero credibility and everything you post will be torn apart by more reputable members of this site.

Seriously, what did you expect?

How do we scale "irate"? Is it "semi irate, irate and extremely irate." This is not quantifiable, and limited to someone's subjective interpretation of what happened. Absent being there, there is no way to discuss it in a meaningful way.

what does this mean? Did he call them bastards or something? Again. How do you expect some to discuss what the hell "less than moderate" means? I said "bastards" and "hell" in this one paragraph. Am I "extremely irate" or "less-than -modorate" or could I be something else entirely?

OK I'm sure for the conference folks that like to receive money from BYU for doing nothing, I'm sure it is awkward to be called on it. Also, when BYU says, unless we get an approximation of what we make, or we're leaving, I'm sure those free-riders would say "no you're being childish."

First off, as others have pointed out, westidahocougar is not a trusted insider on this site. He doesn't have the reputation of a Cruiser or a mcgregor. So whether or not he has a source or not is completely unknown. But lets assume he does...

1. Who is the source and how does their emotional involvement color the situation? Lets say it's someone affiliated with Boise, they are understandably ticked off about BYU wanting to go independent. Maybe they were offended with the realization that BYU and President Samuelson acknowledged that BYU is the most visible program in this league. Would that make a frank Samuelson appear "less than moderate?"

2. The truth is the truth and sometimes people need to be rebuked with sharpness. I have heard authorities lay down the law in very less than moderate ways. But it needed to be said.

3. I hope Samuelson did tell these other school presidents who have been riding our coat-tails for years off. No body cares about any other team in the MWC except Boise, TCU and BYU with BYU clearly being head and shoulders above every body else.

I agree. If we assume that it is anyone who is upset or mad that BYU is leaving then they would have looked at it differently. Good Call! :)

If this happened as wic is reporting via his source (and we've established that the report is likely objectivity-challenged), then to return to the OP and answer wic's questions... this proves that President Samuelson learned a lot while working at the :utard:

I think that explains the situation sufficiently.

Oh, and TIC for those who may be confused.

The only credible source would be someone listening to the phone call -- a university President I would imagine. Anything beyond that is hearsay and questionable evidence anyway.

So.....name the credible source, and give us a direct quotation if one is available, or get off the line. If you are the messanger, who sent the message?

I for one would think it awesome if President Samuelson did call the other MWC presidents low-living, bastardizing, whining leeches sucking at the teat of unearned accomplishment. But that is just me. ;)
