I never held a grudge against BYU.

No, of course not. Everyone is objective here.

I always defended it having a starting lineup older than the Houston Texans'.

Citation please?

I marveled how it fielded very good teams while recruiting from one of the smallest talent pools in the country.

Thanks for the compliment, nice backhand by the way.

I didn't even mind the complete inability to find a beer for sale after its home games.

Sure you didn't.

So go back to the Mountain West Conference, where you belong, BYU. You're not that interesting.

Interesting enough to write an article about. Interesting enough to change your deeply-grounded (positive) beliefs about the school over the course of a single week. Interesting enough that you think people in Colorado will read (and be interested in) your rag enough that you will continue to find employment there. Just not that interesting.

Tool.

A few really good comments to that article too. My favorite:

Mr Henderson, so tell me how your pitch to the editor went?

Editor: So what do you want to write about today?

Henderson: Something that NOBODY cares about!

Editor: Sounds great!

What I think is really funny about the back lash is that it proves that BYU is relevant. Can you imagine this sort of reaction if New Mexico decided to go independent in football and in the WAC in all other sports? I can tell you one thing, Craig Thompson would not have attempted to kill the WAC as a result. We may have added Fresno State, but I doubt Nevada and Utah State would have received invites.

I wouldn't have been angry either. I may have been a little relieved.

All I know is that everyone at ESPN who has reviewed this move finds it intriguing. No haters at ESPN, just local dolts writing hate columns for the local audience. People who se the big picture get this move completely. Money and exposure mater most, and the MWC TV deal offers neither.

TO be honest, the MWC teams should all want BYU to stay, and then thank them for raising the conference profile because Comcast and the MTN sure as hell have zero interest of doing this.

This was pretty much my point I made that you all gave me some grief for, which was that BYU really is not on anyone's radar outside of the Mormon community (which is pretty big by the way!).

Notre Dame can go independent and still draw the viewers because of their history (even though they have been doormats the last 20 years). BYU simply does not have that history or that following, and I really don't think people will tune in to watch BYU unless they are playing a popular BCS program.

I grew up with my father telling me about 1984 and the rude and arrogant fans he encountered at a Husky game (his experience, not mine), and so BYU has always been a rival of mine as a dawg. Needless to say I was looking forward to the Montana vs Heaps series, really disappointed that got canceled. Hopefully Locker can get some payback for the close loss in 2008

I do know one thing, if you do go independent, I would absolutely love to see a BYU vs. ND rivalry game, I think that would be good for college football fans.

A Husky fan calling BYU fans rude and arrogant? Haha, pot, meet kettle.

And now we're giving this same grief to this guy...see you're not that special ;)

BTW you are on OUR message board, but nobody cares about us

BYU's not calling itself the Notre Dame of the west, others are

PS Don't you guys have other games to chicken out of?

Touche my friend.

It is the first game though, and less than two weeks away ;)

There are certainly many arrogant fans at BYU, and since as usual, the most extreme element are also the most vocal, it's easy to unfairly characterize the entire base with a single attribute. However, I think what irritates me most about all the talk and articles defaming BYU for thinking so much of itself is that they characterize not ony the fans, but the BYU administration with the same attributes. The only word out of BYU officials so far (what little there has been) is that we're carefully analyzing and exploring the viability of the Independence option. How is that in any way arrogant or thinking that we are like Notre Dame? Just because Notre Dame requires X million viewers for their independence to work doesn't mean that BYU can't work it out with only a fraction of X million.

The BYU admin has been extremely conservative in their decision-making so far, and I guarantee they're not stupidly assuming they'll be able to turn the 60-million homes that currently have BYU-TV into advertising dollars. The bottom line is if it didn't at least look somewhat viable, it wouldn't even be under discussion right now.

Honestly, I'm not even that in favor of the independence move, but for crying out loud, give the higher-ups at least a little bit of credit and stop putting the entirety of BYU under the same umbrella of perception.

BYU isn't a little school with a bad football program and no history or national following like Washington. If we were, ESPN wouldn't be offering us millions.

I think I'll trust their fact-based opionion over your ignorance-based one, if you don't mind.

LMAO!!!

Aw shoot man, you had me launch water through my nose with that one, classic comedy. You really are delusional if you truly believe that BYU has a bigger tradition, both athletically and academically, than The University of Washington.

Your post is so ludicrous I don't even know where to begin, it's utterly false on all counts.

Purple Haze come out of the fog. Does UW have an NC in FB? BYU does. You could have played us to see who was the best but chickened out. Which team over the past four years has won 10 or more games each season? Yup BYU. As far as I can tell UW has not won 10 games total in four seasons. I'm not saying UW does not have a good tradition when it comes to FB, it does if you go back far enough, but even when you do it does not surpass BYU...Does UW have a heisman winner? BYU does. Does UW have a Doak Walker winner? BYU does. Outland trophy winner? National college coach of the year? Yup, BYU does. Maybe UW has some of these guys too, and if so you can educate me. I do give you one thing. UW does have a stadium that collapsed on itself. Haven't had that happen at BYU. The bottom line is BYU has an outstanding tradition, something that UW simply does not surpass, as storied as UW's might be. I got to hand it to you, though, in light of the most awful teams UW has ever had, to go ahead and tout UW's FB tradition at the present gives new meaning to the term irony. You have embarrassed yourself....

Oh good lord guys, you got to be kidding me. Look, its late here for me so I don't have time to respond to your individual points tonight, but I will tomorrow. In the mean time, a wiki link to tide you over for awhile until I can educate you:

The University of Washington is great. Want proof? They usually beat Washington State University. hahahahahaha

Also, Tulane is great. San Jose State is great. Rice is great. Idaho is great. All of their fans would tell us so as well.

Meanwhile, back in reality, great teams win more games than they lose. Great teams go to a bowl game. Great teams finish ranked. Great teams don't hire Ty Willingham and recruit purse-stealers.

BYU laughs at Washington.

At least Huskies have sweet spirits.

I didn't say Washington has been the more successful football team the last five years, the people I responded to said Washington's history and tradition is "tiny" compared to BYU, which is ludicrous and nobody outside of Utah would agree with you guys. Since when did "football tradition and history" get defined as the last five years? You can't argue both ways guys, it's a non-starter.

BYU has a good history, but it is just not on the same level as Udub, to say otherwise is pure homerism on the part of BYU fans. And the fact that guy said we have no NC and no individual award winners just proves my comment that he is clueless and ignorant on football outside the mid majors, and that is not name calling, it's a fact since he could easily Google Udub and find out we have more than one NC, more than one award winner, and a very long and storied history and tradition of football success going back over a hundred years.

The last five years have been the exception, not the rule. Only USC has a better football tradition than Udub in the PAC10, with UCLA arguably being tied with Washington in some categories.

And you want to make fun of no bowls since 2001? Well we went to the Rose Bowl, and WON it, no Las Vegas potato chip bowls for us, but when we go bowling we usually go big, and win.

BYU has been better the last five years, but they are not even on the same planet as Washington when it comes to achievements and success for the program overall.

According to Wikipedia UW has been to 30 Bowls and won 15 of them. When you say "usually" you win, don't you thnik that you are playing a little fast and loose with the truth? Isn't that like saying "whenever you toss a coin it usually lands on heads?" I don't see how you turn "coin toss" into "usually win"

Oh ...and BTW I like how on Wikipedia you guys like to try to claim OUR National Championship as somehow yours how do you say it...."LMAO"? Little brother...... we don't try to claim that any of your National Championships are ours do we?
