spudmanI've been away from the boards for the better part of the last two years. All of this conference stuff has brought me back, and after seeing no one at cougarblue that I recognized, I found out most had moved to cougarcorner. As a result, I apologize if this has been beat to death already.
My question is why doesn't the Big XII take BYU and TCU? I have seen some discussion about how the Big XII likes BYU, but they need another team to round out the 12. Isn't TCU a natural? I was actually a little surprised TCU didn't go when the first shuffle happened with Colorado, Nebraska, and Utah.
When all of this blew up Wednesday, my first reaction was shock that BYU would want anything to do with the WAC--even if football was independent. That forced me to consider what BYU has to gain from independence, and the reasons to do it are very compelling.
Some have suggested the decision to be independent is final--no turning back. If that is indeed the case, it seems BYU stays put in the MWC with other sports and goes it alone in football. If the independence decision is not final, is BYU having any conversations with the Big XII?
Gary Patterson suggested he knew things the media didn't...could it be BYU and TCU bolting for the Big XII?
I don't know...I am still thinking BYU really needs to be independent. ESPN's help (as apparently offered) will cover any scheduling concerns. It seems BYU still takes this route and leaves the rest of the sports with the MWC.
