MarsCraig Thompson: "Hey there, listen, I called some editors for the Utah newspapers on Tuesday asking where they heard BYU was going independent in football and joining the WAC in their other sports, and they all directed me to you. So what gives?"
Utah State AD: "Well, I told those guys not to cite me specifically when I leaked that information, or give out my phone number, but here's the scoop!: BYU wants to sign a football contract with ESPN! They told us they would join the WAC in the Olympic sports if we could somehow guarantee we'd remain stable, so last week we all agreed to stay together for at least 5 years. We even signed a five million dollar binding agreement! Isn't that crazy!? BYU and Utah State basketball, both together in the same conference!!"
Craig Thompson: "Interesting. Do you think schools in the WAC would really turn down an invite to the Mountain West just because of a measly piece of paper and a few million dollars?"
Utah State AD: "Well yeah, sure, why not? We sure would. Why do you ask?"
Craig Thompson: *hangs up, calls Fresno State and Nevada
Utah State AD: "Hello? Hellooo?!?"
