*The University of Houston has been invited to join the Mountain West. "Only if BYU is still around come Sept. 2nd!" they've replied. Craig Thompson crosses his fingers behind his back and promises "I'm sure that maybe they will be!" straight-faced.
*North Texas denies an offer to join the WAC. "Why take a step down in conferences?" they were heard to muse out loud.
*Hawaii is taking a look at joining the WCC, going indy in football. "We were soo close to being in a conference with BYU again!" the Warriors tell their friends. "Not that we like BYU, because we don't. We hate them! A lot!" Long pause. "I wonder why they haven't called back? We want that 10-year home-and-home football agreement sooo bad!!..."
*C-USA wants to make a deal with the MWC, winners face off for a BCS Bowl game each year. "Like we can't raid you lesser non-AQs any time we want!" Craig Thompson scoffs. "Like we care what either of you guys say or do!" the BCS chuckles.
*Texas-San Antonio is the I-AA school looking the hardest at joining the WAC. Told by the NCAA that they need to compete in 16 sports first, school officials cry out, "And you call what Idaho does competing!?"
*Deja Vu? A Pacific-based conference, centered in Northern and Southern California, Washington, and Oregon is looking at expansion. Their two target schools? One in the state of Utah, one in Denver, Colorado. "BYU, slam dunk baby!" the WCC Commish has said many times this week. "University of Denver? Why not? They're not a perfect fit in our private religious conference, but they're better than those potheads at the University of Seattle, or those damn hippies at Pacific!" Oh, so this IS a little different...
*Montana is also considering making the jump up to I-A by joining the WAC. Of course, they realize that means taking Montana State along with them. Asked to comment, a high-ranking official at UM had this to say: "Montana State? We hates those classless leaches more than Max Hall hates Utah. We despise the nasty, inebriated drunks at MSU more than the Boise State AD despises Idaho. We're as sick at the thought of seeing them join a new conference with us as PAC-10 boosters are at seeing Utah get an invite in place of Texas." So... I'm guessing there's a rivalry in the state of Montana then?
*Utah State University is tricking it out on the MWC's street-corner for free. "Please please please, we want to be with you now!", the Aggie sweet spirit wails. "You owe us, after we leaked to everyone on Tuesday that BYU was looking at joining the WAC!" "Umm, well, maybe, if BYU still leaves, perhaps..." Craig Thompson is heard to mutter out his 2nd story window. "AND if both UTEP and SMU say no!" he adds, laughing, closing the window.
