BYU talk in Lubbock

Just moved to Lubbock and listening to the radio I found a sports gem for Lubbock called "Tech Talk" and they were interviewing Jay Drew for a good 10 minutes. After they let him go they rambled on about how much more BYU has to offer than Utah, and how much they can instantly offer Texas in terms of a network capacity...right now! They agreed that the big 12 wouldn't want BYU to house the broadcasting especially Texas, but were gobsmacked by the facilities. I decided to call in and let them know why we have such great facilties...in the best possible Bronco answer I could give, as well as fill in a couple things Jay Drew left out.





Anyways, the Tech fans I've spoken with have tons of respect for BYU, and tons of people still support Mike Leach.

Way to step up and call in.



The Big 12 would be a better conference with BYU and BYU would be a wealthier school with the Big 12. I really wonder why all the foot dragging?

Maybe BYU could offer to only take money "they" earn. ie-fans that travel/tv



Or not charge anything for joining the conference, but make each school pay BYU for hosting the channel and running it in Provo :D

I live next door to Mike Leach's parents' in law, and three doors down from his wife's sister. They make it sound like he's doing just fine right now, relaxing, taking a short sabbatical from coaching. But he'll be at it again soon, probably next year. They also said something to affect that "he's active again now". Whatever THAT means.

As I've said before, BYU needs to make themselves a valuable source of TV broadcasting knowledge, even an unpaid consultant, to get on their good side...Texas would be a good friend to have - especially to a team that's trying to break into the Big 12-2

You've nailed one of the biggest upsides to going independent and running our own broadcasting for 2 years (in partnership with ESPN). We could approach the Big 12-2 with a polished product combining a wicked-awesome football team and a money-making broadcasting setup that they wouldn't be able to refuse.

You've nailed one of the biggest upsides to going independent and running our own broadcasting for 2 years (in partnership with ESPN). Not to mention a good b-ball program, and other sports that don't really matter but college Presidents have to pretend to care about.



Plus...OU and TExas will get more chances to erase that donut against us!

There is still a matter of two teams (NEB and COL) that need to fork over a lot of mula. From reports I have seen, they may not get much out of them if the two that left were replaced so quickly-especially by teams that were comparabale or better. Kind of an argument of "why should we (NEB & COL) pay damages if none were incurred. So this my be the reason for all the bruha-ha.



What excites me is that a lot of the rumors are that the two invites that are eventually made will be to BYU and Arkansas. A lot of people don't believe Arkansas since they are already in the "strongest" conference but in the several interviews I have seen, the things their officials said were mostly "doublespeak" and indicate to me that they will jump when the time is right. I t would be cool if it happened.

I believe BYU has offered something along these lines on somewhat of a graduated scale.
