The clock is Ticking!!!

BYU has until 1 September (around 10 days) to announce it's decision without penality if it intends to leave the conference. They say silence is golden, but delay can be costly. And while BYU delays its decision (or at least its public announcement) the football landscape is changing all around us. What is BYU waiting for? Do you think BYU has just created a rumor to stir the pot to see what falls out of the potential (but no real intent) to go independent? Just throw out a carrot and lets see who bits?



I think BYU is serious about going independent, but not all of the "ducks" are in place yet - maybe waiting on ESPN, BCS, or the church authority's approval.



What are your thoughts? Which way will BYU go?

Exactly. The delay is to give the MWC time to cool down, understand keeping BYU, even if BYU gets home TV rights, is better than losing BYU and the entire Utah market in the process. Comcast can not afford to lose subscribers of the MTN Network in Utah, and ad $$ go in the toilet with Utah advertisers. BYU still has the leverage because the WCC is still a viable option, and teams left in teh WAC will still schedule us in football, so getting games not a problem. The MWC will look incompetent and jilted if they let BYU just leave, and it will kill their BCS aspirations and credibility. Seriously, those teams need to keep BYU, make BYU happy, and just shut up already.

I think BYU is waiting to see what happens at this point. What if the WAC is able to pick up a couple good options to get them back to 8 teams, what if the MWC caves and gives in to BYU's demands? I also think that BYU is currently working behind the scenes to make sure that they get the best deal possible no matter what it is. They are not really "waiting" like I intoned above.

Really, the best thing in the world we can do right now is have some patience and let everyone's (the school presidents) heads clear and get past any anger issues they might have and recognize just how important it is for them to keep us and keep us happy.



We have nothing to gain by making a hasty, emotional response and everything to lose.
