If BYU stays . . .

Let's say BYU decides to stay, hopefully getting some concession (say, better broadcasting rights), and Tom makes a statement tomorrow. What does he say to spin all of this in a positive light? Texas was able to go from the B12's worst enemy to its savior overnight--could we do the same?



On a related note, what do you think are the chances that Hair is in real negotiations with BYU, rather than just telling us to shove it like he seemed to last night? Was the CBS/Comcast trip an attempt to get better coverage, more money, or some wiggle room on rights on BYU's behalf? If ESPN is willing to offer BYU such a lucrative deal, wouldn't CBS (the network, not CBS-CS) counter to keep us?

BYU will look like an ass, but who cares. Once the first ball is kicked, no one will remember anymore. And Oregon or Florida St or Miami or someone will do something stupid to look like the goat.



So lets look at the facts. Because of what just happended/is happening:



1. Everyone in the conference hates us

2. Everyone in the conference wants to pummel us in the turf when we play them.

3. Everyone in the conference will be gunning for us - the target is firmly planted on our backs

4. Everywhere we go, we'll be booed, and we'll hear "F-You, BYU!" at every MWC venue...EVEN IF WE AREN'T PLAYING THERE! (ala Wyoming)

5. People will hate us so bad, they'll sell out their own stadiums in the hopes of watching their team destroy us.



So, in other words...nothing has changed in the last 40 years.

Absolutely. BYU is still the strongest program in the conference. If we stay it's a HUGE boost for the MWC. I'm not sure if that ship has sailed already, but every team in the conference HAS to realize that losing BYU is a HUGE blow (in terms of fans in seats, broadcasting, name recognition, RPI in all sports, etc.).

BYU is the disgruntled hot wife that wanted a separation, just took a look around and finally asked her husband to go to counseling. If the husband doesn't shape up, he knows she could be looking elsewhere at any minute. Don't think for a second that when BYU basektball dominates this year and BYU football asserts it'sef in the future that the MWC isn't painfully aware that we're still disgruntled. Every move they make with us is going to be walking on eggshells. They either treat us right or face our eventual loss. And they know they need us for AQ status.



Considering that BYU has always been a team player in the past, I think we had every right to explore other outlets. We're still the hot wife, getting hotter and hotter every day.



I think there's a way to save this marriage.

I don't think that it's going to be saved. But that is just my gut feeling

If they stay, BYU will say that the media made alot more of this than they should have. Of course we fans had nothing to do with it. we never do. we're just fanatical posters in our little corner ( no offense to CC creators)

Time heals all wounds. If BYU stays i think everyone in the conference will be happy about it. As much as they hate us, they would rather hate us as members of the same conference. They need us. They don't want to need us, but the reality of the situation is apparent to all.

After all the crap that went down the week of the Pukes to Pac-10 invitation, most of us just ended up saying, "Good riddance to them." I feel the same way now. Good riddance to the MWC. May you do well and prosper as a mid-major. May we do well and excel with out you.

I was pretty pumped about leaving the conference yesterday morning, but I think now I would like to see us go to marriage counseling and make things work in the MWC. Even though the slices of pie are getting thinner, I like the additions of Nevada and Fresno st. It might be worth our time to stick it out and explore AQ status with our new group. The computers might disagree, but i think that a conference with all of the powerful mid major teams deserves AQ status. And who knows, the Big XII might come calling and change all of this.



Independence is starting to sound kind of lonely.

That $10 million is leverage BYU could be using....We can still leave and let the remaining MWC come up with the $$
