QB Battle Day 10

Very few team 11v11 series today. One TD drive, three three-and-outs.



Day 10 Stats:

Heaps: 7-9-0-59, 1 TD, 169.51 rating, 77.8% complete, 1 TD drive

Nelson: 0-1-0-0, 0 TD, 0 rating. 0% complete.



Fall Camp Stats:

Heaps: 73-128-2-812, 12 TDs, 138.13 rating, 57.0% complete, 16 TD drives, 1 FG drive.

Nelson: 60-99-1-703, 12 TDs, 158.23 rating, 60.6% complete, 15 TD drives, 4 FG drives.



I gave both scoring and passing edges to Heaps. Heaps now leads in passing edges and is tied in scoring edges. I am still concerned with Heaps overall passer rating. His camp rating is relatively pedestrian. I still hope coaches can find a way to RS Heaps. But I don't think they will.



If UW was tomorrow, Heaps would get the nod.

What!? You mean we still have a football team that will play actual football games in 2010? I thought the universe doesn't exist until 2011 when the mighty-morphin-psycho conferences begin playing 15v15 football on polo unicorns.

A few notes, on some growing concerns for Jake. Right now through camp, he's at the borderline of a good passer rating. His rating right now is 138.75. The last 10 years (2000-2009) BYU's W-L record with a rating of 138 or better in a game is 56-6. When the rating has been 137.99 or less the record is 26-37.



I'm starting to leaning backs towards really wanting Heaps to red-shirt.

Almost forgot camp was still running.



Interesting numbers. I'm still on the fence about which QB will get the nod. I think we have a multi-QB season upon us unfortunately. I, too, would prefer a Heaps RS year to preserve playing time.

you are putting too much emphasis on that number. try running the numbers only when he running with the ones against the ones. then you can rely better on that number. also the offense is vanilla for a lot of the drills that are being ran in open practices. those numbers should go up when you have the offense clicking in a game time situation. also do we have numbers from the closed practices they they have been having?



jake is the qb of the future and will take over by years end. riley will be used. right now riley may be separating himself slightly if hte reports are accurate. it depends on who you are asking though. each reporter has a different opinion.
