LawboyThe WAC is in trouble. I feel bad for USU, who found a nice home and seemed to actually be improving. Now they are fish food, unless the WAC can add some teams. But who? Tulsa or SMU? Doubt they leave to join Hawaii, USU, NMSU, LT, Idaho and co.

CannonCougar85Sounds like everything was in place and working out great but then Fresno and Nevada really screwed the WAC and BYU over.
One question asked was if the WAC would seek legal action against BYU...the answer was no.

Hmmm, reading those highlights of the press conference, it appears that Nevada and FSU were looking for some payback for when BYU left them holding the back when it formed the MWC.

Remember that "Utah State will now out-recruit BYU locally!" article when Utah went to the PAC-12? I don't feel bad for the Aggies at all. Let their terrible football go I-AA, and they'll still get to keep their solid men's basketball program.

-When the WAC was presented with the BYU independence plan it was received with excitement and all presidents were on board with the plan.
-The 5 million dollar exit fee was presented by Benson and as he put it "I wish I would have made it 20 million."
-Benson believes that the invites yesterday were in direct response to the BYU independence plan and that the invites happened very quickly.
-There are no official invites to SDSU or UNLV.
-The 2 schools leaving missed the July first deadline to declare leaving and therefore cannot leave until the 2012 season.
Overall I thought Benson sounded like his dog just got hit by a car.

Harmons quote is a little half-baked. its twitter what else would we expect.
FSU might have wanted out, wanted pay-back at BYU, etc, but it makes it awfully easy when your new boyfriend pays you to be his boyfriend. Thompson so incentivised FSU by helping with their buy-out it was a win-win. But he also said "do it now" and we'll pay you. Easy math.
Did FSU scuttle BYU? wrong way to attribute and explain.

These are the statements the lead me to believe that FSU and Nevada did this specifically to screw BYU. They all knew about this for a week, they all signed the 5 million dollar agreement knowing why they were doing it (to make sure no one left to stop this deal from happening) and yet FSU and Nevada left the very second the MWC asked. I believe that it was done on purpose with malice. Nevad and FSU made no secret about their feelings when utah and BYU left the old wac to create the MWC and now they have (in their minds) just screwed BYU.
