You think he knows something about a TCU/BYU Big XII invite?

I don't think that the Big XII is going to flip script all of the sudden and decide to go back to twelve, it's probably about more expansion in the MWC because an 11 team league would be weird.

what would patterson know that BYU does not know...what could he possibly be privy too if it is to make the MWC better would not all MWC schools have this same info? I don't know what to make of that statement.

We know Thompson is not telling the truth.

We know that he had a fairly quick counter action plan in place if BYU jets.

We could safely assume that he has other teams in line if in fact BYU does cut ties. And to his credit, could not and should not disclose that in the press conf.

He's struck back at BYU with a shot over the bow and is crouched, ready to strike again, if necessary--even if it is just one more team. TCU needs a regional rival and it probably is a texas school.

If Patterson would know something, certainly BYU would too. But if it's just expansion in the mwc, Patterson's comments mean precisely...d#*$, and he returns as my 2006 opinion of him...a d*($#e.

Does this mean that tcu is going to the big12 but byu is not? or does it mean byu and tcu both are but it won't be for two years or so and byu doesn't want to stay in the mwc in the mean time?

I just don't see Big 12 bringing TCU. The Big 12 already owns that market, what does TCU bring to the table? The only way I see TCU coming in, is if another Big 12 Texas school goes out.

So the Big 12 tells Patterson their plans and then says don't tell BYU. We're going to wait until the day of to tell them anything about it so that they have minutes to organize it.



My guess is that Patterson thinks that the MWC will get AQ status which it wont. Patterson is clueless.

I think it is Houston, outside shot at SMU. TCU and SMU would make great travel partners in all sports, and SMU has it together again. But I would wager on Houston, maybe even UTEP.



By the way, perhaps BYU made this move all along to get the other 8 MWC teams to finally add these teams? We ought to consider that as well. Perhaps this was all orchestrated to get many potential BCS busters together to limit them to 1 at most, between BSU, Houston, Fresno, Nevada. Seriously, if BYU and TCU go Big 12, the 'others' are all together now.

espn has the tape of him saying all this. he says he doesn't care but you could see he was extremely mad. that makes me think that there is no big12 invite coming like he was trying to suggest. he is just trying to save face and pretend like he is cool when really he is extremely socially awkward :)

While I understand better now the reasons BYU was planning independence, I have not been able to figure out why right now. In 2 years, we may be residing in a BCS conference without moving. In some ways, this is as close as we have ever been. Then Patterson makes these comments:

I realize these are taken out of context, but they seem like they may connect the dots. Holmoe reiterated his meetings with the Big 12 were enlightening. He said BYU is very close. But hasn't that always been our problem? We have been close, but never invited into the good-ol'-boys party. The Big 12 is no different from the Pac-12. They don't want a Mormon school that dictates no Sunday play. It's costs outweigh some very lucrative benefits BYU offers. Eventually, independence may be a necessity. The reason it might be happening right now is BYU knows the Big 12 isn't calling. Gary Patterson may know TCU will get that invite. Now independence in the immediate future makes sense.

I know that he seemed agitated in the interview. Could it be because his local media are more interested in BYU than TCU? Could it be that even though he's creamed BYU in 2 years, that people are still more interested in BYU? Yes, TCU is paying 100 million to decrease the size of the stadium and make it look fuller. Ya.....good luck with that. I think it's called inspanding.

Patterson is a smarmy angry little man, so void of personality, that even TCUs success cant' get him to the table of a top notch program.



He knew nothing, but thinks that he carries enough juice to make it look like it.



Sorry buddy, but ADS and particularly school presidents hold coaches in contempt when it comes to major decisions. The last time I checked, this was about economics, broadcasting, etc. Your exercise science degree doesn't qualify you to do anything but coach.



TCU does not put fans in front of the televions or fans in the stands. Patterson would be well advised to say out of things above his head.



What he did was no different than the million times some 17-21 year old dipstick comes on this forum and says, "my sources tell me.....a rumor.... that...."
