BYU behind the $5million WAC buyouts? Bad press...

I don't think that BYU was behind it, and I can't even be certain that they actively pushed the WAC toward this. I can believe that they wanted the buyouts to go into effect, but I don't think that they were the motivating factor behind them. I think the WAC didn't want to lose anyone else like they did Boise St. so Benson concocted this one on his own. BYU wanted it to go through to provide more leverage for the indy plan, but again, I don't think they actively pushed for it. If they had, something would've come out sooner on this, I sure.

I don't think we come off badly at all. Approaching a conference to ensure you have a place for your other teams is not a bad thing to do. It's not like we held a gun to their heads or anything.

if it's true that fresno and/or nevada didnt' actually sign it; maybe someone should have held a gun to their heads.... or at least hold one to Karl Bensons now.

I agree, I wouldn't mind a couple b-ball games vs Gonzaga and St. Mary's every year, and their fans seem to be a little more tame/cool than say UNLV and SDSU.

They certainly pass the smell test when it comes to religious tolerance, but how do we sell the WCC to recruits? There's no avoiding the mid major label there.



the MWC (in spite of their flaws) is very much a major in most sports (if BYU stays), by their sheer footprint now that nevada and fresno have been added, and potentially utep/houston/tulsa.



I just dont' see how we explore indepedence and get in right in 2 weeks time when apparently BYU had been considering the WAC jump for quite a while. (yet someone dropped the ball on letting fresno and nevada out of the bag..... unless BYU anticipated that.... cant' wait to see what plan B is)

Is selling Gonzaga and St. Mary's that much more difficult than selling UNLV and SDSU? I don't think it would be, and if it is I don't think that we'll lose that many recruits over it. I think the majority of players who come here do so because it's BYU and because we're nationally ranked.

I think what happened today was exactly what BYU was afraid of. This is why BYU has been so silent this summer. The more people know, the bigger chance there is to have somebody screw it up. This is why I believe Bronco when he says he had no idea what was going on. I believe that only 3 or 4 people at BYU have really known exactly what is going on.

The WCC has already extended an offer to pick up our other sports, I doubt they'd do that if Sunday play would be a problem.

I would prefer either the WAC or WCC. Both conferences would mean we avoid playing the UNLV invitational tournament at the end of the basketball season.
