It's Official: Nevada and Fresno State to MWC--TONIGHT

Both Fresno State and Nevada are holding press conferences tonight, and then Hair is holding one for the MWC. It will be official at 8:30 MT.



What will BYU and the WAC do next? WCC anyone?

Hmmmmm, that is kinda interesting, FSU does not have 5M$$ to spend just to join the MWC.

Nevada never signed it. FSU may have, but if all teams did not sign, the league probably could not enforce it, or FSU would have grounds to challenge. I do not seee it being an issue.



Jay Drew reported that BYU actually requested it to keep the WAC teams together, but saw it could go down like this. I assume BYU has a plan B. No way they did not anticipate this. No way.

So what would this make if BYU stayed? 11 Teams? I say bring in Houston to make 12. That would have to make us an AQ.

Secondly... Fresno and Nevada are smart for not doing such a thing! :bug:

Jay Drew reported that BYU actually was hoping those schools would all sign, making their jump set and ensuring the a WAC to play in. Now, BYU is on to Plan B, I am certain they have a Plan B.

Who freaking cares if Fresno St and Nevada join the MWC. It would be like if you were a USC fan and the PAC-10 invited teams like a Utah or a Colorado...it wouldn't be very exciting and it definitely wouldn't make the conference better. :)

You forget the one party that hasn't made any comments on this yet, BYU. We have no idea what they have had in he works. And what ever they were planning, I'm certain they saw this coming, and have a plan B.



What would be funny is if they have nothing to do with this and this is all an elaborate hoax someone is putting out there. maybe a joke by the CSU Athletic Dept. ;)

The First Presidency must approve any re-alignment by BYU. We haven't heard from them yet - therefore nothing is set.

I'd like to know what plan B is. If those $5 million buyouts were enforceable, I think this goes down as a brilliant move. My assertion that Fresno and UNR wouldn't consider leaving had a hefty pricetag to back it up; apparently it was sackless.



Now, I wonder if BYU doesn't go back to the MWC and haggle for some concessions to stay. We're still the the biggest earner in the conference by a long shot. A 12 team conference offers the chance for more than one MWC team to go undefeated up to the conference championship game; which brings in revenue. The MWC basketball cache just improved and Fresno and Nevada have top 50 football teams.



Concessions I'd like:

BYUTV gets 1st rights on non-con games



The Mountain pays to use our HD and broadcasting when they're at our place; or some other concession



The conference basketball tourny moves, even if it's every two years rotated - Salt Lake is now a Utah free zone.



BYU and TCU are separated in the 12 team conference but play each other every other year. (we should see them often in the conference championship)



Phoenix gets the MWC conf championship the 1st 2 years. (probably won't happen, since no MWC city benefits at all financially from that)



The MWC agrees to broker their bottom feeders to another conference if they can't manage a minimum rpi (never going to happen)

my guess is mwc is going to help pay for it after hearing hair talk at the presser. they were desperate at that point to keep byu so it was probably worth it.

read some of the other threads. fsu signe dit, nevada didn't.

Rivals has those teams 64 and 65 this year. Not top 50 teams.

... Who are still in the conference, dragging it down. As far as gaining AQ status goes, the same teams that have been holding the MWC back are still there.
