So where are we at now?

Will BYU go indy?

The MWC i think made their best move to keep byu where they are at, disabling BYUs fallback option, the WAC, for all theit other sports. I'm not sure if the MWC is ready to give BYU what they want as far as concessions go, but now BYUs other sports don't really have a fallback option.



And now it comes back to the topic of the BCS.

If BYU stays now with Nevada and Fresno, The MWC is now a good football conference, and with 11 teams, expect 1 more team (I'm guessing Houston) to get invited, for a conference championship game. That makes this Conference VERY likely to get that auto-bid IMHO.



So, where are we going now?

NM and CSU would need to move to the WAC to get the AQ. maybe the WAC could pay them the $5M buyout money from FSU and UN to do it.



I think the MWC needs to tell BYU that they can stay for football and do their own tv deal and get the Mtn to agree to it.

There are plenty of conferences that would take BYU's other sports, and the WAC can pick up some Conf-USA teams, Sun Belt teams, etc. (heck, they've already got La Tech). We'll be fine and can do what we want. It's looking more and more like we have been honoring that gentlemen's agreement with Utah and now that they gave us the middle finger we're gonna do whatever we want.

Wouldn't it be rich if this were all some elaborate plan to get the bottom feeders to jump to the WAC, and then BYU says, nevermind, we have what we need now to become a BCS elgible conference? I don't think our bottom feeders will jump though.

What he may be referencing is that if BYU stays in the MWC they get the same amount of money...however if/with FSU and UNR joining the MWC that is more mouths to feed for the conference with the same revenue...now you divide the pie among 12 vs. 10.



His point was valid and there is no need to tell him to "take a chill pill". There was nothing in his statement that implied he was out of line. If you inferred that, then that was your fault for assuming.

If you are saying that now BYU doesn't go anywhere and stays in the MWC than in reality Hair really screwed the rest of the teams in the conference because the pie will now have to be sliced more ways and all the schools should be ticked if that ends up being the case. What seems strange is the invite from the MWC came really quick and I thought any invites had to be approved by all the schools presidents, so this tells me one of two things. A- The other school presidents already knew BYU was going independent and because of their pure hatred of all things BYU came up with this plan to undermine and try to screw BYU or B- This is a panic move by the other schools led by Hair and they made an emotional decision by inviting the other schools without thinking it through. If that is the case any time you make an emotional decision you usually end up screwing yourself which seems to fit right in with Hair's MO.

Unless BYU stays as a result of a defunct WAC. I dont' think what Thompson did was the dumbest thimg he's ever done, however, he could have handled this a long time ago by giving BYU the concessions that they deserve as the revenue bus driver in the conference.

The MWC isn't getting an auto bid. Face it. There is no way they share that money, after we break down the door and put a metaphorical gun in their face. We could add Notre Dame, Oregon State, and 5 other teams, have a championship game, etc. It isn't happening. The only way that it is happening is if the MWC is better than a few of these conferences (likely), and are subsequently denied, which we will be. Then the politicians all get together during election year, and sue the BCS as an a monopoly. Then the anti-trust legislation goes to the court systems, which will take forever, with appeal after appeal. And just ask all the voters in California that had their repeated votes voided by some dude with a gavel how well the court systems represent justice.

Do you guys really think that BYU didn't anticpate that the MWC was going to do something like this to try to keep them from leaving? If BYU really thought this thing through and is serious about going independent, they had to have a back up plan or something. Everyone's knee jerk reactions today to the news is really funny. Just relax and see how this all plays out. Some of Y'all are complaining like a petulant child who didn't get what he wanted for christmas.

The vote was unanimous. ALL MWC schools including BYU voted to have FSU and UNR join the MWC.

If this is true it doesn't seem to square with what we have been hearing about BYU's intentions. Why would they vote to gut a conference that they are supposedly going to?

Was the vote required to be unanimous? Because if not than maybe BYU knew it would be a losing battle to vote against it so figured they may as well get on board.
