Was byu asleep at the wheel on this one or what? Freaking ridiculous.

BYU isn't forced to go anywhere yet. If we don't like the view before Sept 1. we can't be kicked out. Plenty of time to weigh all options.

Right remember that the one that hasn't said a word during this whole thing is BYU. And they are the most important piece to this puzzle.

Dude, you assume too much. How do you know that the MWC did not offer BYU a stay in all sports but football deal? And BYU could still go toe WCC for hoops and other sports and be just fine. No deals have been signed yet, so all in flux, anyway. Just means BYU has more issues to deal with in jumping. But would it be so bad if BYU goes indy in football, but plays in the MWC is all other sports? I think it would be great. Worked for Notre Dame.

Going indy in Football and staying in MWC for other sports with FSU and UNR may not be that bad at all if Hair can get that to stick with the other schools.

the mwc just worked byu over again. i think independence may have just gone out the door. i am ticked and leaving to go get my mind off of things.

I think that no matter what goes down, BYU ends up better off. BYU does not need the MWC or WAC to align itself. BYU has a reported ESPN deal in principal for football, and BYU can align with C-USA if they want in all other sports. THe MWC is just trying to save itself now, and I do not think they are trying to outflank BYU. They can't, BYU holds the leverage. Hair is trying to keep his job. BYU will end up better off when this is all said and done. Wait and see.

I think it blew up in our faces (the fans); we're the ones prematurely celebrating (at least I was). BYU was exploring their options and using their leverage, ala Texas. We've got 2 weeks before anything is a done deal with the MWC.



BYU has not announced a thing and there is plenty to settle here.



The MWC still wants and needs BYU. For all practical purposes, BYU just got invites to the conference for nevada and fresno state.

NM and CSU need to move to the WAC now. Then Houston joins and with BYU maybe we can get the AQ.

Jonnylingo, cougarcorner's little ray of sunshine on all things dealing with independence and Nelson. :D I say just wait to see what happens before we all go chicken little and say the sky is falling. Hair has to do something to try to save his job and I think that what happens with BYU could be the nail in the coffin for him. Even if BYU doesn't leave I still think Hair is gone after next year.

byu now has egg on their face. we now have a mwc with two more mouths to split the meager pie with. mwc one upped us. they stopped us dead in our tracks and said now what are you going to do. we look even weaker now then we did before. its seems to me that byu didn't think this through enough. they should have been sure nevada an fresno were not going to jump. from what i have read nevada didn't even sign the penalty provision. that all but guaranteed the plan to fail. how could they not have known or done due dilligence on that before all this hit the fan.

Seriously man, enough of this "BYU didn't think this through, they were stupid to even attempt this in the first place" stuff. Honestly, have you nothing positive to say about anything? So this didn't go down the way we expected, so what? Nothing seems to happen the way we think it will, and so life goes on. Football will still be there, and come Sept 4, we'll all be cheering them on anyway. What happens with the whole independence thing really doesn't matter. With Nevada and Fresno (and BYU if they stay) The MWC will be a better conference, and the BCS invite could still happen in 2012. I don't see much problem with this other than the TV money.



Regardless, before all this woe is me stuff, wait to see how it all pans out, BYU might still be able to negotiate with the conference for more TV money. Even with Fresno and Nevada coming in, that will not replace BYU's revenue if they still leave. The MWC conference loses any scenario in which BYU leaves.
