RaiderboyAssuming BYU goes independent, there is a good chance Boise stays in the WAC with no penalty whatsoever. This would make the MWC a 7 team league. You need 8 teams to be an FBS conference.
The MWC missed it's window to invite WAC teams and become a 12 team league. Since Boise announced it's leaving, their league agreed to a $5 million dollar buyout. Needless to say, a WAC team coming to the MWC is not going to happen.
No team will come, regardless of the WAC buyout, because TCU will surely be looking to leave the conference and the MWC is on the verge of collapse. TCU will probably wait and see if a Big 12 invite is in the cards next spring and then leave for the WAC if it doesn't pan out. Hopefully TCU's desperation helps to warm the Big 12 to the idea of adding BYU.
What do the remaining 6 MWC teams do? Would the WAC want to try the 16 team experiment again?
