ESPN says MWC invited Fresno St. and Nevada on Tuesday

While BYU considers leaving the Mountain West, WAC members Fresno State and Nevada were approached by a Mountain West representative Tuesday about an invitation to the league, according to a source.

The MWC seriously dropped the ball this offseason. Lost Utah and BYU, and now Boise State has the option of backing out.



"Potentially more troubling for the Mountain West: a change-of-mind by Boise State that could return the Broncos to the WAC. The WAC office source confirmed that scenario as a possibility. Boise State would face no penalty if it did wish to return, the source said."

I've heard that UNLV and SDSU are considering joining the WAC as well. This would help our Basketball team out tremendously.

NM will be available to the Big 12-2. If they would agree to join and take no revenue maybe BYU could join them.

Just saw that THEMWC sent out a tweet stating they offered spots to FSU and Nevada. No word yet on if they both denied or not. Willing to bet they go if a booster ponies up the money. FSU and SDSU in the same league helps, as does Nevada and UNLV. ANd with BSU and TCU, that league is way better than the rest of the WAC. Will be interesting to see which league wins out here. 1 is going down for sure. What happens to BYU if the WAC teams jump to the MWC and the WAC ends up folding? Could get crazy.

Okay, maybe something is going on after all. . .

It would seem odd for the MWC itself to announce it on their website and on twitter if those schools had not already accepted. That would leave the WAC with only 6 teams for football and 7 for other sports. Not enough to be realistic.

What is going on here? Is this a last ditch effort by the MWC to keep BYU? What happens if it doesn't work and BYU insists on independence? The WAC needs to add at least two more schools to be viable. Would BYU still go to the WAC? this is interesting stuff.

If soap Operas were made for men, this whole situation would be the script.



Who's going behind who's back? Who will win out here? Who is telling the truth and who isn't?

It is a last ditch effort by the MWC to remain viable. Seriously, if they add those 2 teams, they remain in tact. And then USU gets hosed and all Aggie fans will REALLY hate BYU. Personally, I hope the WC gets Boise back and takes in enough teams to get to 12 and the MWC dies. I would love to see AFA go Indy with us, and play then every year.

Why would Fresno consider jumping into a conference so unstable when they're the boss right now in their conference in football. Remember FSU has ESPN, the mountain.... still has the mountain.

Thats a brilliant point.

I can see the WAC drawing two of the MWC bottom feeders now. I think it's still possible, although looking less likely, that both the MWC and WAC survive in some respect.

They just added BYU to all sports but football.



If you asked someone last week, if they'd accept losing Nevada completely to get BYU in everything but football, I assure you'd they'd jump at that chance.



For all practical purposes, BYU just joined the WAC as far as the WAC is concerned; they just don't get the football.



What does the MWC offer now? AQ qualification? not likely



regional and historical advantages? not at all



What Fresno and Nevada will do is hunker down and realize that they're just as well served to sit on this and wait for Boise to come back because the MWC just lost their cash cow.



explain to me what the MWC offers that is so compelling now.... BYU is gone, and the WAC gets BYU for everything but football. Boise ends up on the fence about going back. Utah left the MWC and TCU would jump to the Big 12 in a heartbeat. OH, and the MWC is horribly managed with a terrible television setup.

If Hair has any smarts he'll be able to pull two teams from the WAC, making it obsolete, pitching that BSU and TCU will carry the conference (TCU will NOT get an invite to the Big XII) and that there's nothing left in the WAC because football is king. You seriously don't think that the MWC could get two teams from the WAC to jump ship? Look at who's left.
