On the UW Blogs - nearly unbridled optimism and not too much worry about facing BYU. I found very little detail about how their practices are going other than Sark seems happy enough with what he saw in the first scrimmage. Third party reviews focus on the defense as a weakness due to young talent but lacking experience. One pointed out how strong UW finished last year with two blowout PAC 10 wins including Cal. It also reminded readers that players now have a year in the new system under their belts - may explain the strong finish last year. UW will score some points this year. It is not clear how many they will give up and they were horrible on the road last year. But keep in mind that whether u r talking about the 0-12 season before Sark or last year at 5-7, there are few teams in this country that could survive the schedule UW has played the last several years. Let's put it this way, BYU was the easiest OOC game in the 0-12 year. Last year they lost a heartbreaker to ND on the road in the final minutes on a controversial call. They beat USC. Luckily, this game is in Provo - but do not take UW lightly. They have Locker back. They have a sophmore RB back that went for over 1,000 yards his freshman year. The O/L only has to replace one starter. Wide receivers are mostly back and solid. TIght end is a bit of a ? but they have talent - suupposedly. THe D is riddled with newbies and was weak a year ago. Luckily, we r not their biggest worry for 2010. Unfortunatley, Sark will probably put extra measure into prep cuz no one likes losing to their alma mater.
AFA - ON CBS - almost no info of any current value. Projection is for a very good defense with some questions on offense but young talented QB is back with experienced running backs. Hopefully we r too big and strong for them again.
FSU - and this is why I took time to throw this post together. FSU bloggers do not even mention BYU. They seem more concerned about their opener with Samford right now. Not that they expect to lose to Samford - but on day 1 of scrimmage - Ponder described it as being a wasted day. That was with their Heisman hopeful QB returning and a defense that sucked last year and has new coordinators and a new scheme this year. But the D shined, relatively speaking - and the offense sucked. Some think they will win the ACC and lose only 2 - with no worries about BYU. Some think 5-7 with no worries about BYU. Many were pleading for less negativity and patience while the new HC Jimbo Fischer rebuilds the team. Offense was not supposed to struggle - but it is so far. The defense was suposed to struggle - but it isn't so far. Bottom line - they didn't score iirc in the first scrimmage. Based on how it went - u would bench Ponder. So perhaps we should all be reminded not to jump to too many conclusions this early in camp. Anyway - FSU does not seem so informidable so far.
