With a big year, could Chambers go pro?

I certainly think if he puts up the numbers that such could be the case. Not that I would want him to go early mind you but it would be another great step for the program in establishing a strong stream of NFL talent coming through the program. I also think Luke Ashworth (the only senior receiver) has a shot at getting drafted should he have a big year but probably not as desirable to most scouts as say Chambers would be. But seriously, if we put two mid- to late-round receivers into the NFL after this season, along with a top ten pick in Matt Reynolds and maybe Rich and Bradley going in the mid- to late-rounds, it would be HUGE for BYU recruiting. Shoot Jacobson might even decide to go pro after this year should he have a monster season.



One other advantage to Chambers leaving early would be opening up a little more room in the receiving corps for the up-and-coming youngsters and get our bevy of TEs a few more game reps as well. If the next few seasons go as I expect them to, BYU could be putting a lot of kids into the NFL in the coming years. Maybe not all top-rounders but still.

no, just no. I hate the go pro early talk. This guy is on no pro scouts radar yet and has MUCH to prove and 2 rater pedestrian seasons. He will be back for his senior year for certain. And Ashworth has not shown near enough to get drafted. Will not happen. Might get a FA invite, but not NFL caliber speed. Jacobsen will have the best year of those 3 I think.

Unless he has 1500 yds and 15 tds there is not a chance in hell he gets drafted .... Ashworth will absolutely positively never get drafted ever no matter what he does

I don't think so. He has great potential - but much to prove. Critical catches w/out dropping them. I want to see O.C. have 2 BIG years. Both this year - and next.

I want to see O'Neill have 10 great years, two more at BYU and then another eight in the pros. I want to see his parents living in a mansion and then all his kids go to BYU and become All Americans. I'm not really asking for much.

He's not even close to as fast as Austin Collie, who posted a 4.6 at his NFL combine. Don't be fooled by recruiting services numbers, they get those often from the kids themselves.



I like Oneill, but he'd have to lean up and speed train for a couple years to even sniff the NFL. If guys like Dawyne Jarrett, Charles Rogers, and Mike Williams can't stick in the NFL, what makes anyone think that OC has a serious shot unless he significantly upgrades his speed and rebuilds himself into a lean fast version.



I give OC the benefit of the doubt for the last 2 years because Max had already chosen his favorite targets, but if OC cant' get seperation vertically this year, then he might as well start thinking about his career after college, because it won't be playing football.

The linebacker type receiver works in college, not in the pros unless your name is Hines Ward. You have to have speed at the next level.



This happens every year with fans; and it's not just BYU fans. Each college team has good players on it that somehow those particular fans think should be a pro. This is not a new topic of conversation. Different year, different kid. Same ole story; can't we just be happy that he's a solid college football player?

Another question perhaps: what's our strongest position this year? OL and WR.



We have too many great options at WR this year for any one guy to have a 15 TD, 1,000 yard kind of year. Not only that, I don't see our new Qb's picking a favorite. I agree with what's been said, he'll be back for his senior year and would need a whole bunch more speed to make it at the next level.

Chambers is not near pro-caliber. He is slow (although he said his speed has improved) and has ball handling issues. Much like Reed, BYU fans overrate this guy more than any other player. All of us want him to be elite, but come on. The easiest benchmark is Collie...is he even close to AC? No way.

I actually thought that Reed was underrated. He had very good hands, he wasn't blazing fast, but was a good possession receiver.

I would be more than happy, however, for him to have a season that would send him straight to the pros... like 70 TD catches, or something... lol. :)
