Funny Proposal for changes to Coaches' poll

What should happen is the non-AQ coaches who do have a vote should over-vote for other non-AQ schools. So if there are 50 coaches with a vote and 20 of them are non-AQ coaches than there should 20 first place votes split between TCU and Boise - who are the two best non-AQ teams.

The non-AQ teams have more power than they realize and they could start effecting change by simply effecting how they vote in the polls.

Another funny thing is that this is how US Senators used to be elected (no, not by BCS coaches, but by politicians--state legislators) until the 17th amendment required direct election. And I know several state legislators here in Utah that would love to get back that power.

Yep, and I agree with them. Congress was intended to have to two houses (which it still does), but one house was to be the voice of the people (House of Representatives) and the other the voice of the states (Senate) in the legislative branch of the federal government.

With the 17th amendment we took the states' voice in the federal government away from them and gave the people a second voice.

There was a reason for that - since they weren't popularly elected, they wouldn't be able to win reelection simply by bringing home the pork for their constituents (like the late Sen. Byrd did for years and years and years). Of course, that doesn't stop that system from becoming a good old boys game at all, so it's got problems just like popular election does.

I think this is a catch 22, because then you'd get the AQ coaches voting non-AQ teams extra low to balance things out.

For example, how in the world do you leave Houston, BYU, AND Navy all out of the pre-season Top 25?

You don't report the house in the Bahamas! Don't want to have to pay taxes on it!

I would love for Congress to spend more time in their own districts. Like they only meet in DC for 10 days every two months and spend the rest of the time back home. With today's technology, there's no reason any meetings between sessions couldn't be done over secure, video-conferencing.

I think they need to ditch the coaches poll altogether. They are not the most knowledgeable people. They spend all week preparing for their opponent and all Saturday focusing on their game. When are they watching all the other schools? They usually aren't.

I think any poll voter should be required to watch at least a quarter from every top 40 school game. Then the votes should be cast on Tuesday or Wednesday so that they have time to watch all the film before voting.

Coaches voting are a complete joke.

A great book on this subject is Bowls, Polls, and Tattered Souls: Tackling the Chaos and Controversy That Reign over College Football by Stewart Mandel. A must read for any college football fan.
