Which Running Back are you most excited to see play?

I'm excited about our running backs. Even with the loss of Unga I think we'll be pretty good. Who are you most excited for?

That's a tough one. I'm excited to see Luigi because I think he's going to have a break out year, but with all the promise and hype that Quezada and Phillips have been getting, I'm really excited to see the new guys.



I voted for Phillips just because he's got the wheels to bust the big time runs, even if he won't get many touches behind Luigi/Kariya/Quezada

I've already seen JJ play so for pure excitement it has to be someone new (though I do love you JJ, you know I do). I'd say it's a toss up between Quezada and Phillips, either or both of these guys could be absolute beasts for us in the near future. Coin toss goes to Quezada because he had to shave more hair to get into BYU. Go Juice!

From camp reports I have seen, JJ has looked good, but not Harvey Unga good. In fact, I think that is how it what couched. Josh Quezada is the unknown guy who supposedly looked great in spring camp, but have not heard much about him this fall. But his combo of speed and power excites me most. Kariya is a short down workhorse, JJ a good pass catcher, but neither are complete, every down backs. At least, not like Unga was.

My guess as to why we haven't heard much about Quezada thus far in fall camp is because before today they hadn't donned full pads. Quezada's strength is a mix of his power and shiftiness. Without pads you don't have to worry about a guy's power so it's much easier to "get him down" when it's not full pads. I bet he starts turning heads again next week. I don't take much stock into the running back's stats until they really start hitting.

Really good point. If you are two hand touching him down, that is a lot different than slamming heads for yardage.

My pick is JJ. He's got the spot light, so it's time to perform. I want to see him justify the hype he had coming out of HS.

For me hands down its phillips. He has so much going for him and could be used in so many ways. I am intrigued to see how things play out with him. does he dominate right away? does he struggle because he is so relatively small? Or does he become a tcu kerley type? maybe he doens't become any of those and ends up as a safety or receiver. I don't know. I just can't wait to see what happens with him. I could see him putting on some more weight and becoming the next luke staley as well. i want to know if he lives up the hype. i think he will. love his confidence and attitude.

Kariya, he trucked the sh** out of the stellar Oklahoma front seven again and again, I'd love to see him make the Pukes eat turf on his way to the endzone ala Harvey Unga. Also excited for new guys Phillips and Juice, and to see how JJ has progressed.

Phillips is practicing now, but he may be held out by the NCAA for the year.

After what Mike Hague did to some of the kids yesterday, I'm dying to hear more. I love the idea of a fullback scaring the hell out of linebackers.



Dont' forget that he was the 5a player of the year his senior year and has one of the longer runs in recent history for BYU; I don't know how viable he'll be in this year but he's making some serious noise in camp right now.

Hague is a non-factor and non-contributor. I don't think he'll be a significant player during his career at BYU. He should have stayed on defense.

I say Q because I have heard some much chatter coming from the players about him. I can't wait to see Philips returning punts too.

I've always ben a J.J. fan. I think this might be his breakout year. But - I'm really excited to see what Quezada brings to the table. If he can hang onto the ball - (the unexpected challenge w/ Harvey's early departure) - will allow Quezada to get serious game time - along w/ the other quality RB's that the Coug's have in their stable. Wow!! What a boatload of talent!!

I don't think there will be a full time back the way Unga was. When he was healthy Unga was in on...what...75% of the snaps or something. I think JJ will get the most snaps but it will be more like 40%. That actually really excites me, because there are so many different skill sets. I am most excited about Q because I think he could be an every down back. Phillips could be tremendous, but fleet-footed light weights seemed to not pan out very often.



I love the idea of opposing teams have to prepare for 4 or 5 different types of backs. And they will always be fresh, and hopefully healthy.

This reminds me of when we had Jamal Willis and Kalin Hall in the backfield. Or Jenkins and McKenzie. Or Staley and McDonald-Ashford. Good problem to have. :)

#2 deep snapper, #3 FB, #4 RB. He's only a Jr.
