How hard should I work on adding this feature?

Like a home screen? I think the feeds and revolving storyline are pretty good. I come here to learn and to interact, so I like the format

the problem with amazing news pages is that someone has to write it. In order for them to write it, they need money. In order for them to get money, I'd probably have to pay money.



Therefore. I don't need a news page. Even an amazing one.

The news page I'm currently talking about would automatically aggregate the BYU coverage of several websites into one listing of all the most recent news about BYU Sports. It would show you the headline, maybe a little snippit of information and allow you to click the link to read the news story on say the Deseret News website, or at DeepShadesofBlue

I guarantee you I will never, ever, ever, charge any money to visit this site and participate in the forums or games. I may sell, or try to sell, a few t-shirts, etc. But that's it. This site will always be 100% free for the end user.

If I want news, I go to a news source. I come to CC for the discussion. I don't mind the rotating news blurbs in the corner, but I don't want anything more prominent than that.

In what way would this be different from the google news and twitter feeds on the right side of the CC pages?



I've found both to be very useful (perhaps they ain't broke?)

The news page would be more thorough than the news blurb that currently exists, the twitter application will stay where it is, I've found it to be a fantastic resource.

I initially imagine this news page as being a separate page, you wouldn't have to visit it if you didn't want to, but do you think that would be too distracting from the rest of the site?

Yes. I think cougarfan.com is awesome and it is one of the first places I look every morning. If you had something like that on this site, then I would go here instead of cougarfan, as long as it had has many sources.

I would just suggest you do what you can to leave the present page addresses intact. That way people who have bookmarks or homepages set to the forums don't suddenly get redirected to a news page they had no mind to visit.



I would also like it to be more precise than the Google and Tweet boxes we have now. We seem to get a lot of non-Sports and non-BYU news mixed in there. Dunno if you have any control over those things.

Yes, the current pages will stay the way they are, anyone with bookmarks to say the football forum will not have that change.



As for the twitter, I can remove certain tweeters if they are typically non-byu related, but unfortunately I can't filter a users tweets to display only the BYU related ones.
