On being unranked in the coaches poll (No. 28, if you count schools also receiving votes):

“I would just as soon be there. If you are looking at it objectively, and saying when you lose your quarterback to the NFL, when you lose your running back to the NFL, when you lose two tight ends to the NFL, and you are replacing some guys on defense. Regardless of past history, to start 28th, that’s about right, I think.

No one makes the team until they have cut the roster to 53-men the week before the final preseason game.

Right, I understand that but I hadn't even heard he was competing for a spot on any roster.

He was waived by the Panthers in mid-June. I haven't heard of him showing up in any other camps yet.
