yes really.

let's simplify this.

I have two sources (sources A and B) which have sources/info (sources C and D).

Sources A and B can be trusted 100%, I can assure you of that. Sources C and D seem like they can be as well (especially source C), but it's not for certain.

Usually when someone has a "source", you have to question whether or not that person is completely full of crap or not. In this case, I know for sure they are telling the truth - it completely comes down to whether or not the information they're received is accurate.

I hope that makes sense.

But Italics, can we trust you?

Sorry, but your "sources" are crap.

Do you mean at home in LES? We'll see. If they call for a "white-out" to fans, we'll know something is up.

Sept 1, 2011 maybe. It makes no sense to bail one year before finding out if the MWC gains AQ status or not. Even if it does seem like the cards are stacked.

Sorry Italics, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this 3rd hand information is crap.

Tell me this italics, in your post you say tow things we can know if we go indy, one that aq status is not going to happen and holmoe knows it and the other is that a big12 invite is on nthe way for sure a a few years.

how does that follow? I don't see the logical connection. if we go indy=we are getting big12 invite? don't see how that is a must if we go indy.

Two sources C & A have secondary sources R & P. Source C gets his info from source R, source A gets his info from source P. = CRAP

And yes, this is why they call it "rumorboard"

Funny. Italics has been one of the most vocal opponents to others that have posted about potential independence and Big XII talks. I guess they were trolls but he isn't.

I always thought Italics was the one that was against independence and always attacked people claiming to have sources. With that in mind he must be pretty sold on this to make such a complete 180.

we will know once and for all, never before has someones credibility been so on-the-line with such a solid date. If Sept. 1, comes and passes his credibility is completely shot, if not, it gets a major boost.

Nobody who goes independent gets invites.

Actually, he's already built an out into his rumor--while his direct sources are infalliable, he has already indicated he is unsure of how reliable their sources are. So, when Sept. 1 comes and goes without any movement, he just shifts the blame two degrees away and keeps clean.

It's Rumor-Mongering 101: You take a fixed date that is already the deadline for something (any school leaving the MWC has to notify the MWC by Sept 1st of the year previous to avoid penalties), and you take something everyone is opining and conjecturing about and boldly assert you have inside info that X will happen by that date. If you gamble right and win, you have lucked into credibility. If nothing happens, you can still claim your sources are legit, but their sources are not, thus maintaining an aura of insiderness.

Hey, I've made no guarantees on anything. For all I know, the original "source" could be cougarboard. I'm not claiming to be Holmoe's hunting partner or anything. But take it for what it's worth. I think this all beginning to look more and more likely.

I basically said we can know at LEAST one or two of the following things (meaning one or both)

1) BYU knows that the MWC is not going to get AQ status (let's be honest - does anyone here think that the whole entire BYU staff is going to risk leaving a conference that has a good shot at being a BCS conference in less than a few years?)

2) BYU knows or highly expects a Big 12 invite in the near future. They may announce going indy as a way to make some extra dollars over the next 1-2 years, to warm up their satellite facilities, or to make their exit out of the MWC less difficult.

of course, there's always the other two options:

1) BYU would do it simply to try and gain leverage with the MWC

2) BYU is not strongly considering independence

As usual TX, you couldn't be more wrong.

I was a huge opponent, yes, of people who were dishing out crap about BYU receiving an invite to the Big 12 this summer... that was never even close to happening, and never did happen. I was also particularly merciless towards those who were handing out guarantees, or near guarantees - ex: "I am about 95% certain..." or "I would be shocked if ______ didn''t happen by ______"

Ever since the independence thing came up I've been pretty open-minded to it, even though I've stated several times (as you've conveniently failed to mention) that if I had to bet money on it, I'd bet that BYU doesn't announce going indy this year.

Seriously, I know I embarrassed you a few times over on rumorboard, but no need to hold a personal vendetta, especially when it leads you to post crap as untrue as what's quoted above.

Thanks for the confidence, BUT - as post above - I've actually been pretty open-minded on this Indy thing all along, for difference reasons.

The whole "Big 12 invite by _____" was what I ridiculed the most.

And how does that work? Can you give me an indication that I came even close to guaranteeing anything? I even said on rumorboard that for all I know, the original source could be cougarboard (although I really doubt that is the case here).

I'm simply sharing what I've heard, but unlike most of the other arseholes that have posted their "sources," I'm not dishing out guarantees along with them.

If I KNEW this were happening, I'd clearly state so.
