Question about Indep before Sept 1st

I keep hearing that we are going to declare independence before september 1 so that it clears the way to accepting an invite from the big12.



I am not connecting the dots here. I thought there was no exit clause penalty to leave the mwc. if that is true, then what is the rush to decide before september 1. how does that help us or the big 12 if they came knocking?



Can anybody fill me in on this or is it just an obviously stupid claim.

There is no exit penalty, you merely have to give 9 months notice, which is what makes Sept. 1 an important date.



Declaring we're going independent wouldn't necessarily improve our ability to get in the Big12 however, we can say we're leaving to join them or go indy, or whatever. All we have to do is give 9 months notice.

I have been asking a similar question...hoping that McGregor would reply. Usually, I just ignore those types of email forwards/postings...but there is a certain degree of rationality to some of these points.



If BYU could get a $4-$5 million contract from ESPN to broadcast the games they want - which means, they could help with the scheduling - that would leave BYU with the option of contracting out other broadcast options - such as back on KSL and live telecasts on BYU tv for other areas. This would increase BYUs television revenue by 500% or 600%. Also, it would free up BYU to use their broadcast facilities (as Holmoe insinuated) for an immediately large distribution. The 5-6 games on ESPN dramatically increases exposure...while BYUTV would dramatically increase access for interested fans.



It does make a lot of sense...given that the MWC will never command that type of money on a TV contract and the likelihood of the MWC becoming BCS qualifiers depends on the mood of the BCS honchos.



The thought have HD over BYUTV is really so cool. I want to know how legit this is...or if someone is exaggerating an option that BYU has considered.
