BYU's schedule tough, Boise's creampuff

It's interesting to compare schedules:



Boise State schedule - I give them a "C"

= 1 TOUGH game, the opener against VA Tech in Washington DC

= 1 GOOD games, Oregon State

= 3 DECENT games, Fresno State, AT Nevada, AT Wyoming

= 3 MEDIOCRE games, LA Tech, Hawaii, AT Idaho

= 4 BAD games Toledo, NMSU, SJSU, Utah State



BYU Schedule - I give us a strong "B"

= 3 TOUGH games - AT Florida State, AT TCU, and AT Utah (only because it is a RIVALRY game)

= 2 GOOD games - Washington, AT Air Force

= 3 DECENT games - Nevada, San Diego St., Wyoming

= 1 MEDIOCRE game - AT Colorado State

= 3 BAD games - AT Utah State, UNLV, New Mexico



The main difference is that we play 3 very difficult games to Boise's 1 tough game at Virginia Tech. Also, Boise has more mediocre and bad games than the Cougs.



It's also interesting to look at a couple of other "powerhouse" schedules:



Ohio State - probably a B-

= 3 TOUGH - AT Wisconsin, Penn State, AT IOWA

= 1 GOOD - Miami

= 2 DECENT - Purdue, Michigan

= 3 MEDIOCRE - AT Minnesota, AT Illinois, Indiana

= 3 BAD - Marshall, Ohio, Eastern Michigan



Ohio State's schedule doesn't look that different than BYU's schedule. BYU has more one more GOOD game and less MEDIOCRE



Florida's Schedule - strong B

= 3 TOUGH - AT Alabama, LSU, AT Florida State

= 3 GOOD - South Florida, AT Tennesee, Georgia

= 2 DECENT - Kentucky, South Carolina

= 2 MEDIOCRE - Mississippi State, AT Vanderbilt

= 2 BAD - Miami (OH), Appalachian State



Florida's schedule is very similar to BYU's schedule. The biggest difference is that Florida play AT #1 Alabama.



The sad truth, and reflection on the current stupid system, is that while Florida plays a solid conference schedule, it still gets BAD games out of conference. It's good to see them play GOOD games against South Florida and Florida State. BYU has its BAD games in-conference, but still gets the GOOD games in and out of conference......

Don't forget. another key metric:



BYU: Plays Four top-25 AP teams in away games not including Washington which could very well end up there as well.



BSU: plays WVU which is tied for 25 with the Frutes.

I don't get your metrics. 50% of Florida's games are good or tough and that's a "Strong B." 33% of Ohio St's games are good or tough and that's only a "B-"?

I don't think that I applied any metric on the grade, more of a gut feeling. However, I definitely agree with you...Florida probably deserves closer to a B+ and Ohio State probably gets a C+, at best (see what the BCS brainwashers do to you!)

I think BYU deserves to be more than one grade away from Boise's. They play a full 25% more of a schedule against mediocre and bad teams than BYU. If Boise gets a "C", BYU should be getting a B+ at least. By your metrics and your teams I'd grade them thus:

Florida: A

BYU: B+

Ohio St: C+

Boise: C

You can't give a team (Florida) an A when they play eight games at home. I mean, sure it's the SEC, but Tennessee, Miami Ohio, Miss. St., Vandy, Appalachian St, they still have a handful of gimme games.

There should be a rule against playing 8 home games. How is that fair? It affects polls, BCS rankings, records,

and competition. There's a reason that you play as many home games as road games in conference...because that's fair.



I agree that Florida does not deserve an "A". That's why I graded them at a "B". They do have some cup cakes, but you can't deny that playing AT Alabama and LSU tip the scales in their favor. Also, playing AT Tennessee, in front of 100,000 fans bumps the Tennessee road game up a level.



If anything, Boise State needs to be downgraded to a C- or D+....

Good points. Probably leave Florida where it is and downgrade Boise. And 8 home games is a bit obscene.



It's one thing I've never quite figured out. Why doesn't BYU try to schedule 7 home games. I guess we don't do 2 for 1 that benefit us.

Seriously, BYU should have three 1-for-1 or 2-for-2 contracts going on each year...and then schedule either a home one-and-done (like the SEC and Big Ten) with a WAC or FCS school...I would also like to see a 2-for-1 with Utah State...have you been to their stadium? I thought I mistakenly went to a high school game the first time I went...seriously

We really should make USU play a 2-for-1 with us because we're basically keeping their FCS status afloat with attendance at that game. We gain nothing by playing them, and it's one of the few things that I really disagree with Bronco on, but if he insists on playing them we should get a 2-for-1.
