Bronco on Manti Teo's Mission Plans

Dennis Dodd tweeted today "Bronco Mendenhall is not surprised that Manti Teo is not taking his mission. In fact, he knew it a couple of years ago."

Good luck to him. Don't hold it against him. Heaps probably won't serve either, along with a couple other guys from the 2010 class, so not about to go there and judge Manti. Bronco was right, but that moral victory is pretty hollow. However, it does prove that Bronco has a good handle on recruiting, and the comments he made about not losing certain recruits that want the BYU experience ring even more true. He gets what BYU is, what BYU offers and uses it to his advantage, rather than disadvantage. I love that.

I am shocked he is not going on a mission :P



I hope he does well. I have no hard feelings against the guy. But sometimes I just think about what our linebackers would look like the next few years with keveinga, teo, pendletone, stout, vannoy..etc. couple that with heaps and company coming in. we are already but would be even more poised to do some serious damage.



Hope things work out for him over the next few years. It would be great to get ND on the schedule again.

I think it also shows that Bronco is doing a good job of distinguishing players that say they want the BYU experience and those that actually want to experience what BYU has to offer and do for them.



He seems to be able to find the guys like Heaps and Stout who really want to be at BYU more than anything and those like Manti who don't.

A recruit can take solace in knowing that BYU is going to stand by their offer, unlike AL-LSU, and that Bronco's word means something. We also see that a player's rating and being LDS isn't the determining factor - it is whether you are fully vested (shameless plug) in the program. We can be sure that our recruits know what they are getting into and the commitment required. I for one always played with more inspiration and zeal when I trusted the coach and knew he was going to war with me, and genuinely cared about me. The program is in very good hands and knows just what type of player will fit well in this system.

Good for him. I'll take one kid that decides not to go, over someone to babysit for 2 years any day of the week. Hard decision to make, and all the best to him. But, if he doesn't absolutely break a few pUkes this year, I will be very disappointed. :lol: :D
