Cougs_RuleI attended the BYU event tonight--ok, ok, ya it was the "Couples Clinic" date night, I confess. Actually, some elements were pretty cool. A bunch of new players were in attendance, as were many of the coaches and they were asked to mingle with the crowd of 150 cougar fans. The event was to help raise funds for Bronco's Charity "Fully Invested" which helps fund "Thursday's Hero."
They provided dinner, some swag, a walk through of the locker room, Bronco and Holly talked about their charity, Doman talked offense, new linebacker coach talked defense, Greg Wrubell did a piece, Walter K sang a few songs, then Eason, Bradley, Chambers, DeQuan (new JC transfer), Chambers and Logan did a lip sinc. Then we went out on the field and participated in some basic skills and drills directed by the players.
Ok, its not full speed, no pads, etc, but I will give a few of my interactions and impressions.
Ross Apo-I heard two players call him "silk" as a nickname. Has to be all of 6'4 to 6-5 as listed. He said his "arm" (thought it was his shoulder) feels great and ready to go. Great kid. And smooth as silk! As he demonstrated some routes, it was sweet to watch. Kind of like knowing Collie and Pitta were on different (NFL) levels, this kid has got "IT."As others have said, if he learns the offense, he will be hard to keep off the field, period!
Kyle Van Noy-very nice kid. Had a great chat with him at dinner. Didnt get to see him move around alot--but chiseled and very athletic looking--and ready to go. He's Excited he'll have a shot. Said Atkinson was out.
Austin Holt-Big kid. tall. Looks the part, not sure how fast he is.
RIchard Wilson-also very chiseled and larger than last year. Not as tall as I was expecting, but still trying out for tight end.
Jason Munns- Definitely "NFL" size and height. Had to be 6'5". Still appears to be needing a little bit of conditioning. Didnt look in great shape. But confident. Didnt get to see him throw much, but I liked his delivery. Seemed sound in fundamentals.
Zach Stout- very solid body-wise. didnt look like a freshman. kind of reminded me of austin collie in personality.
JJ Diluigi--looked solid. NOt as short as I had expected. Was asked a question during Q and A. Gave a very poised, mature answer. Was asked how they plan to fill Unga's shoes. Said the RB's have worked hard and were ready but those were very big shoes to fill.
DeQuan Everett-nice kid. quiet. welcomed him to Provo. When he participated in the lip sinc, he had on a tank-top; was very cut. Nice size, taller than Brandon B. Could be a very nice addition.
Anyway, great idea by Bronco to have these guys directly interacting with Cougar faithful. Not sure ifit was required of the "new players" or just all the single ones. One player said all the married ones were at home.
Heaps was flying back into town tonight.
Well, it was very cool to be there. Hope this wasnt too boring or lacking substance for you folks. I figure I could get away with this type of post since we're all hungry for even tidbits.
