Boise State-Idaho---sound familiar

Not sure what to make of this, but the Boise State president just ate his own shoe, whether the comments are true or not. They are Max Hall-esque, except the university Pres said it. And the debate of whether to renew that rivalry also rings true in a way similar to what is going on here in Utah. I think it is stupid to stop a long time in state game due to conference alignment changes, but that is just me. Rivalries are about history. You do not abandon that.

I disagree, especially since the only side that wants to continue the rivalry has nothing else to play for - it's their annual bowl game (i.e. Utah in 4 or 5 years wanting to play BYU for the same reasons). BSU wants to be on the national stage, not a blue whale for a leech to suck on.

Fine and all, but only rival BSU will have will potentially be TCU. And that is all because of 2 games played in 2 years. Not much of a rivalry. The hate is what makes the rivalry go, and is he key element to any good rivalry acrossthe nation. BYU and Utah need each othe rfor that reason, as BSU and Idaho do, like many other schools across the nation. Dumb to abandon that 1 game because the fans love it most each year. Seriously, I'd rather stomp Utah every year than anyone else.

i find it really funny that BSU people are pointing fingers at bad fans. They are the poster children for bad fans. I have seen it first hand, just flat out horriable fans.

Listening to BSU talk about the Vandals does sound a lot like the banter and vitriol going on between frUte fans and BYU fans.



Utah can't talk about BYU now without using the term "mid-major" (which irks me to no end) and we can't talk about them without using the phrase "innebriated, black-souled traitors of the pit" which might not go over well either.



I see a lot of simmilarities with horsies and (are they really called) the Vandals.

The Utah game may be interesting to some in Utah, but it has done nothing to get us the national attention that we have achieved. And so it has been ever since, Utah has used us to get National attention, but because we are suppose to beat Utah it doesn't do much for us.



Let's move beyond Utah. They are now a below average program in a BCS conference that would like nothing more than to have us on their schedule once they become the dead wood of the PAC-12. For national prominence purposes our game with Utah is like having a rivalry game with Ol' Miss - who would care?

Sorry, still number one to me. And it 04 or 08, how even sweeter a victory over Utah would have been. In 08 it would have renewed discussion of our qualification to be in a bcs bowl.

Exactly. Here in Utah, this game is huge. For fans outside of the state, who do not run elbows with Ute fans on a daily basis, just can't understand why. Much of teh fun from beating Utah on the last play has been taken away due to the PAC-12 stuff. The game and a win means even more now locally, because they all of a suddent think they are better, simply due to conference affiliation. Beating Utah now would be sweet.

I live in Utah. And the rivalry has turned idiotic. Before I moved here the game with Utah was nothing more then playing Colorado St. It was just another conference game. The Utah game is interesting, but I find it hard to believe that a BYU fan would set the bar so low that beating Utah is our biggest game of the year rather than beating a nationally prominent teams. Do you believe that last years win over Utah was better then beating Oklahoma? Ask anyone outside of Utah and the will remember that we beat the Sooners last year (and took out their quarterback), but most won't have a clue what happen against Utah. A win over Utah may add to the fun around the water cooler, but only big wins against BCS teams keep BYU in the national spot light.

Our number one recruiting base is in Utah, not in Oklahoma, Texas, or Florida. If it is one or the other (and not both) I would rather win the Utah game. Just because a win against Utah is expected, and those other wins are icing on the cake. Our recruiting base expects us to beat Utah on a yearly basis. We aren't expected to beat OU every year. Now we are getting guys that in 5 or 6 years, we have a great shot at doing that on a regular basis. But if we can only win one game a year, it has to be Utah. Hopefully there move to the Pac means less to us once we aren't playing a meaningful game. We just need to stomp them badly this year, and the BCS recruiting "advantage" they have will be just a nice dream they once had.
