Heaps and Wide Receivers/Offensive Line

"Its also worth noting that Apo and Heaps have built a chemistry over the past couple of years at camps, and that has continued to develop this summer."



Andrew Rich has stated, "WR Ross Apo is "phenomenal" and says "there aren't very many athletes like him in the country."



-on the quarterback battle: Riley Nelson "is just a winner," while Jake Heaps just "stands in the pocket and delivers strikes."



I love the idea proposed by DSB, "... think about Apo and Chambers playing wide with Jacobson in the slot. Then throw in JJ and/or Juice in the backfield and this offense could be fun to watch."



This is a WR combination that would really benefit from Heap's pinpoint passing skills and would create some serious mismatches. With the opposing defense not being able to focus on one WR, our running game could provide a nice compliment of quick draws and RBs coming out of the backfield for short swing passes.

It may take until mid-season to accomplish this combination, but wait and watch for it. Too much talent and too much speed and match-up problems for opposing defenses to leave them off the field. There will be mistakes; their record may be 7-5, but they will be exciting to watch.

I don't think we've heard from a single WR yet that prefers Riley Nelson.



WRs that prefer Heaps: Apo, Chambers, Jacobsen.

This is obvious. heaps is the better passer. Nelson can run but he can't pass like Heaps. I just dont' see Nelson getting the nod. His strengths just don't fit in to a byu offense. not to mention riley is a lefty so you have one of the best left tackles having to completely switch positions to accommodate him. reynolds even said he is not there yet playing right tackle. that seems like a waste of his talent on the left side.



Cant wait until fall practice to see how this goes. Riley has a few weeks to outshine heaps. i don't see it happening. heaps is lucky that munns and lark just got back from their missions so recently tha they are not really back in form yet. I think a battle between lark or munns after being back a year would be a whole different story.
