B-Y-Who? B-Y-Quarterback U!

A writer on this site claimed that Washington was the real quarterback U back in April. Now the BYU writer has make a rebuttal stating BYU's side.

The initial argument was just awful. He cherry picked his data and discounted any data in BYU's favor. This is basically what his argument was:



If you want to be an NFL QB you go to Washington and not BYU. Why, because Washington has produced more and better QBs in the NFL. Especially if you don't count what Steve Young and Jim McMahon did in the NFL. Let's pretend those two QBs either didn't play at BYU or didn't have NFL careers. Now, whose school produced more and better NFL careers:



BYU with Ty Detmer, Robbie Bosco, Brandon Doman and Marc Wilson

or

Washington with Mark Brunell, Billy Tolliver and Warren Moon.



Clearly the obvious answer is Washington!



That was basically that guy's arugment. If we discount all the great NFL QBs from BYU, BYU hasn't put anyone in the NFL!

Yeah, the Washington guy got excited about a nice trend that he saw for his team and without thinking turned it into smack talk.

agreed, it's nice and all that so many of their QB's got drafted, but with no Super Wins, no Hall of Famers and only a few decent journeyman NFL careers to brag about (Moon, Brunell, Chandler), that's not much of an argument.



I'd be interested to see the Washington writer compile the same stats that the BYU guy did and compare....of course, he won't because there's no comparison

Warren Moon is in the NFL hall of fame, in spite of UW, read his biography sometime. He was one of the nicest pros I've ever met in my life (while he was in kansas city) and his career numbers are staggering.

As a junior he became starting quarterback, and the Huskies stumbled to a 5-6 record. Moon was booed unmercifully by his own fans. Sometimes the jeers took on racial overtones. As Montville puts it, "amid the bad feelings it became easy to put Moon's face on the team's failure."

Moon said Husky fans were racist and mean when he played.... in spite of that he eventually prospered.



But you cannot compare what BYU and UW qbs have ultimately done in college or in the NFL.



UW doesn't have a Davey O'brien winner, BYU has 4



UW doesnt' have a Sammy Baugh trophy winner BYU has 7 (UW has one if you count that they have Sarkisian now)



UW doesn't have a Heisman trophy winner, BYU does



BYU has half a dozen Heisman finalists, UW has none



BYU has had 2 quarterbacks start and win super bowls (Young and McMahon have more than one ring) UW? none

starting to look like the last 3 seasons of UW football.

Didn't McMahon also win a few SBs as a backup? I thought he was on the roster with the Packers.

Even the Wazzu Cougars have had a former QB start and win a Super Bowl--Mark Rypien.

True that Young only started one Super Bowl, but is it fair to say that Young could have started against the Broncos in SB XXIV and the 49ers would have still won?
