Xavier Sua'Filo Mission

Xavier has left the UCLA football program & will be serving a 2 yr. mission. "X", as a true Freshman was regarded as UCLA's best Offensive Lineman. After the mission .... "X" would be free to transfer and play for the Cougs ..... hmmmm ...... kinda like Max Hall. Sure like to see that happen!! Perhaps?????

As much as I'd love for that to happen... I highly doubt he will. There are a lot of team mates who are LDS and share the same beliefs, like their starting QB Kevin Prince, their OC Norm Chow, etc...



UCLA is our other "Mormon" school, after BYU.

Yeah, and it was our other "Mormon" school that lobbied to get us into the pac 10. Oh yeah, they were against it like their liberal friends (cal and Stanford) up north. Don't fool yourself, UCLA is just as liberal and bigoted as any of the other Pac 10 schools.

Hmmm... I was referring to the players and staff. Don't turn a perfectly good thread into another redundant conference expansion thread.

Actually I'm going to say Utah is the "other" mormon school now. They didn't exactly lobby to get us in the Pac- "we-hate-mormons-and-bunnies" 10 either did they?



But good point about X; less likely for him to transfer unless UCLA really falls apart.

How does the "Riley" rule play into a possible transfer?

It just means he would lose a year of eligibility. Previously a missionary who was gone for more than a year, wouldn't lose a year of eligibility if they transferred post-mission. Now they do.



Max Hall lost a year of eligibility because he wasn't gone a year. Ben Olson didn't lose any eligibility because he served a full mission.

The "Riley" rule says that no school can contact a missionary unless it first gets permission from the school that the missionary left from. They can still transfer without losing eligibility, BYU just can't contact missionaries from other schools without getting permission first.

I thought the 'Riley' rule just prevented BYU from making any contact while on his mission - should he decide to transfer anyway, that's fine. For example, Kaveinga wouldn't have lost any eligibility if he served a mission now, even if the NCAA rules against the current appeal. Am I wrong about that?

I stand corrected, but I thought they also still lost eligibility.

Don't lose a year of eligibility, but they do have to sit out one year. That's why Max had to be on the scout team when he transferred, he wasn't gone long enough. Now you have to sit a year if you transfer after a full mission.

So let me see if can sum up the Riley rule:

- Teams cannot contact players on a mission (and I think they can't contact them for some time after completion either).

- A player who chooses to transfer will still have to sit out a year, but won't lose any eligibility.

I sure don't know. I do know Riley has made things difficult.



-He's made the rules and regulations difficult for me to understand.

-He's made the next BYU QB difficult to figure out.



Maybe he's just a thorn in our side!
