Walk-on twins with 4.5 40s (I love walkons)

A lot of the info on these kids is from their sophomore and junior years; not a ton on them as seniors, except their weights and 40 times have improved (as they should as seniors)

1st and foremost, these kids are honor roll students; nothing like padding an already top 10 academic football program with 2 kids that will have no trouble with BYUs academics. (remember there are pretty high academic requirements for a walk-on to earn a scholarship at BYU)



2nd, they run legit 4.5 40s and had they set their sights on smaller d1 schools, they would have gotten scholarships.



They wanted A+m, Utah, UCLA, BYU, Texas, Texas Tech... and they wanted it as a package deal. (prob wasn't happening for sub 6 foot receivers that run 4.5s; not for top 25 programs at least)

Their older brother is already at BYU; and apparently the younger two had been holding out for a big time D1 scholarship with walking on at BYU as a backup plan.



Their team was small and went 5-5 last year in Houston 5-a. (5A football in Texas is no joke)Their offense was solid, their defense was soft; it looks as though they didn''t have any beef on either line.



Both kids made their all district 5A team and honorable mention all state in Texas 5A

Let me add that the reason I love walkons, is that they have to earn their scholarships. BYU has dozens of players attempt to walkon every year and they all know what it's going to take to earn a scholarship (it's a mountain of requirements).



Half of the scholarship players at BYU usually haven't met the requirements for a walk-on scholarship by the end of their soph years (of course they don't have to, which goes back to my point)



These are the types of kids that force the scholarship players to work their butts off or face losing their depth chart spots to walkons. When we get kids that passed up smaller D1 college offers to walkon here, I get excited because of how it helps BYU.

Under Mendenhall, his staff extensively evaluates prospects they don't have scholarships to reward up front.



It's kind of a trend or an earmark of Mendenhall's regime to go walk-on hunting.



Good or bad move? Well, if you win, it's a no brainer. But if scholarship players get pushed or replaced by walk-ons, there could be issues.



"It will be that way as long as I'm the coach," Mendenhall said. "There just isn't that much difference in our best walk-ons and our scholarship players. What one may lack in terms of size, speed or athletic ability, they make up for it in heart and attitude. So I'd say there might be as many as five or six who could end up playing for us in some role."

With 4.5 40's, they sound like run ons, not walk ons!

I move near this high school about 9 months ago. Now I think I have a rooting interest.

I think I just saw every single play these kids made last year in the last 9:40.



I liked the QB's pocket presence. Definitely helps a receiver to have a QB that isn't afraid of the pass rush, and that can get them the ball in a position where they can do something with it.

If they dont make it as receivers/returners, watch for them to bulk up to mix with their hearts and smarts and end up in the defensive backfield. Just a thought.
