At what point is Utah no longer BYU's rival?

it might have already happened. Most of the Trib and Dnews comments about the matter seem to favor a separation from both sides, but that's hardly a statistical sample of the general population. Does it stop once both are crowned respective conference champs the same year and the whole state of Utah can rejoice in its greatness?



Does it stop when we join the Big 12 or go Indie and all of the sudden we're 'equals' in the eyes of the :utard: s again?



If we are still rivals, does the rivalry stop the year we don't schedule each other?



Whenever it happens. We may be forced to retire our friend. The :utard: smiley.

I think it might even be ceremonial. I might shed a tear.



And then what? Do we add a BS(u) smiley and a TCU smiley? what would a round horny frog look like? Changes - they are a-comin.

The :utard: smiley will live on as a reminder that the :utard:s only made to the PAC 10 over BYU because of religious bigotry. We know it, the Pac 10 and the :utard:s especially, know it.



The rivalry ended the day :utard: accepted the call to the Pac 10.



My hope this season is :utard: goes 0-12, or at least 0-8 in the MWC, then finishes 2d in the Pac10 their first season, to show to all just how pathetic the PAC 10 and :utard: are and thus deserve each other.

I think it started when BYU won a national championship, and now that Utah is leaving and has nobody to hate it dies. BYU's new rival is BS and TCU, until we leave if ever. Drop Utah.

It dies when fans stop caring. That will never happen. It may cool off a little (and I think it should; it's gotten out of hand in recent years) but the two schools have too much history, are too similar demographically (while being too dissimilar ideologically), and are too close geographically to ever NOT be rivals, even if separate conferences. I think it's very similar to South Carolina v Clemson, a lot of the same elements exist and the two schools still HATE each other even after all these years.

I think we will find out in 2011, when the teams will not meet in football. I think that will really let people know how much the game will be missed--and the void will be felt by all. After that, the game will happen annually. The dynamics of the rivalry will change, but it will still be a huge game each year. Similar to a Georgia-GT or Florida-Florida State. People still really care about those games.

If we don't play the U, they will lose all of their y hater fans. So who would they have left as fans?

All I know is that 2011 is not happening. Utah already has USU, Boise State, Pitt and Iowa State as OOC games. If he PAC-0 goes to 8 games, they are set, but if they keep 9 conf games, they will have to cancel one of them. I have been told 2011 just will not happen 100%. Hoops will still, though, and other sports.



2012 will see the rivalry back, and I think the state will be ready. The game will be missed by both sides, and especially by the fans of both schools. And it will be good for both teams, and help us. Adding that 1 PAC-0 game per year will be good for the schedule strength. Just need to keep USU, add another BCS school, then maybe a MAC or C-USA team.
