Kaveinga

So is he going on mission or not? I heard he is thinking of not going now and with the new USC rules since the sanctions would he be able to play this year? If the nccaa said not that would suck because if he had waited he could have just transferred last week and be playing by fall this year.

I would love to see him in there this year. we could use him however I don't want to see him lose his mission opportunity. If he delays he will never go most likely. Truly mission is more important.

No word on this. I really do wonder, now that the USC stuff went down, what he is going to do. I do know that he was not going to go when he was at USC, per quotes from his father, because he felt no sense of need to serve while at USC. I would love to know how he NCAA ruling affects him.

If he is going to serve, he should have left long ago so that he misses only two seasons.

I remember hearing he had his papers in (and that maybe he had his call already?), but he is listed as "Rostered" for 2010 on BYUcougars.com. But they're not exactly 100% when it comes to accuracy. Who knows?

The word is that BYU is petitioning the NCAA to allow him to not have to sit out a year ala the other USC transfers after sanctions were handed down. I would like K to be able to serve a mission as well. My guess is that he is seeing the lack of experience at ILB and an almost guaranteed starting spot for the next two years.

The thought of Kaveinga and Stout in the middle for next year really make me think we will be just fine, with Pendleton and Van Noy on the ends. That is one fast, muscled up LB core for a defense. I hope it works out.

I heard that the ncaa already turned down his request and that they are appealing but have almost zero expectations of winning the appeal. No great source though. Just a fellow fan who heard it from someone who he believes is in the know.

You are telling me. Holy Cows! I still can't get over losing Harvey. I really think by the end of the year our defense will be better than last years and if we didn't lose harvey I think our offense would be as well. It is still possible without harvey that our offense comes out very strong of course though.



I am optimistic about our defense. We are certainly becoming more athletic. Lets see how well they do on their assignments and the mental part of the game. That was what made scott johnson so valuable to the team.



i hope if kaveinga decides not to go on a mission that the nccaa lets him play this year. He would fill a serious void.

I think we have the talent at RB to make everyone forget Harvey during the Washington game, just like Harvey made everyone forget Brown and Fui during the Arizona game as a freshman. Two TDs and almost 200 all-purpose yards. Kariya has already shown he can be explosive, and he did it against Oklahoma and Gerald McCoy. Quezada showed in spring ball that he could have an amazing freshman campaign like Harvey. I'm not too worried about our running game.

If Kaveinga isn't in the MTC this month, then I think he's really shooting himself in the foot as far as football after the mission goes. He's going to be returning relatively late in 2 years to be back in shape.



USC is the school that coerced him out of mission plans (that was Pete Carrolls m.o.) so you really can't blame the kid that at 21, he might not want to go IF he can now play right away.

I believe I'd think twice about the mission if there was a chance to start day 1 this fall, considering his age, the timing, and the need. No one could blame him if he wanted to stay. Not a lot of NFL teams looking to draft 25-26 year old linebackers.



If he's not already gone, then something tells me that there's a story there; I just dont' know what it is.



I don't see how the NCAA would deny him considering he may simply have left when he saw the cheating and writing on the wall, so I dont' think there's any truth to his request being denied (if a request has been made, I have heard nothing)

Will also ask him about schollies. I had always thought that if a player qualified for an academic scholarship, it did not count against the football schollies. Will confirm that.

I thought if a player legitimately qualifies for an academic scholarship, that it didn't count against the 85(?). I think Wayne Latu was on academic scholarship but it didn't count against the team's alotment.

Interesting, it was always my understanding that it was the other way around, any member of the football team on any sort of scholarship counted against the allotment.
