This is how this thread works:

Example: "BYU beats Utah this year, Buy or Sell?"



"BUY! Utah lost a lot of good defenders to the NFL, and BYU is still very skilled on offense, the talent will be experienced by the end of the season, and their DBs are as good or better than they've nearly ever been.



Pendleton flexes so hard he rips the sleeves off of at least two jerseys this year, Buy or Sell?"

I'll buy. There has been a lot of hype following Locker for the last couple seasons, but what else has Washington got? A first year head coach, and a bunch of players returning from a dismal season last year. Bronco has shown that he can plug guys in where needed for new seasons and still get success (See Beck-Hall, Harline-Pitta, etc.). The Cougar defense is looking to be better this year than last, and you can't overlook home field advantage when the boys in blue are playing in Provo. It may not be pretty, but Cougs win this one to open another good season.



Buy or Sell: Whoever is chosen to start at QB in the opener will start the whole season.

Sell. I'm going out on a little limb here, but I'm sticking with my guns. I think initially in the first few games we will rely on the defense to win, but once the offense has a few games under its belt we will go back to relying on the offense to win games. That doesn't mean that I think the defense won't be good, I just think the offense with Jake Heaps and all of our receivers and the diversity we have will rack up some big numbers. Tough question though.



Buy or Sell: By the end of the year there will be at least 3 freshman starters on the defense? (some likely candidates would include, Stout, Thomas Bryson, and Van Noy)

Sell. The offense may be missing Max Hall and Harvey Unga, but the offensive line, wide receivers, and running backs are going to be solid. That is the ideal environment for being able to plug in a new QB and have him succeed immediately, similar to Hall's first season. The defense, on the other hand, has its biggest losses at defensive line and linebackers. We've shown in the past that we can reload the defensive line with inexperienced but talented players successfully, but doing that with both the defensive line and linebacking corps at the same time may be a problem, especially in the early going with teams that will like to run (Washington, FSU, Air Force). Football is a game you win at the line of scrimmage, and I feel much more confident in our offensive line than our defensive line.



Buy or sell: TCU has our scheme pegged, and it will take some innovation on the part of our coordinators before we can beat them again.

Sell. TCU did seem to have the Max Hall/Pitta/George version of the BYU offense pegged, but not the John Beck version. With a new QB come new wrinkles, plus Boise State showed teams how to really attack that TCU defense, which we can learn from. Add to it that TCU lost 2 amazing playmakers in Washington and Hughes and both corners, and TCU does have to reload. However, as long as Coach Patterson is there, TCU will always be awesome on defense and it will be their strength. Of course, I remember BYU hanging 51 on them one year as well, so it can be done when you can attack them. And with the QB stable we have, we can attack them in differing ways.



Buy or Sell: Josh Quezada will be the starting tailback by the 4th game of the season.

DiLuigi has the tenure but still lacks the size. He should still get his touches both carrying and catching out of the backfield but "Q" gets the rock with starters touches by or before the 4th game.

Didn't mean to skip you - we must have been typing at the same time. ;)



Buy. With the inexperience we currently have, the talent level coming in, and the chance for injuries to press even more freshman into service, I'd say this isn't too unlikely. Heck, in 2006 we had 3 freshman starters on the d-line alone.

BUY BUY BUY!!! If there was one weakness our defense had last year, it was its inability to consistently pressure the QB. We played solid contain defense, but never really attacked the QB, unless we blitzed. I think less blitzing will be required this year to get to the QB and we'll register more sacks, get more overall pressure and be more aggressive from all over the field. Having an experienced secondary that can cover will make a huge difference in this area.



Buy or Sell: DeQuan Everett will start by game 3 and be the Omar Morgan lock down cover corner we all covet?

Sell: I think Logan and Bradley will keep their jobs - Logan especially. Bronco loves his type of player.

I say BUY! My reasoning is Utah is going to come into the game more full of themselves than usual with the game being in Rice Chex Stadium and them being able to taunt BYU with the Pac-1 drivel. BYU, having lost Max (whose 3 worst games came against the utes--ironically winning 2 of 3) will only help us too. Our offense will be up to the task versus their draft-weakened D and our D will thorougly confuse and dominate their O like TCU's did last year. BYU wins by 17 points in their last MWC tilt versus the utes!
