Ah yes, I've been waiting for the Orlando Sentinel's breakdown of BYU. They're always tied in to the goings on of the program.

I just hope the folks up in Tallahassee rely on the reporting of the Sentinel.

The ranking may be a bit off, but the breakdown offered was solid. The paper did have us rated higher than many PAC-10 schools, including UCLA, ASU, WSU, etc., and some other BCS teams. I think with the uncertainty at QB, putting us in the #45-55 range is fair. Especially with the other losses we had on offense. But on D, we will be better than last year, and in 2 years, our D will be dominant. In fact, I expect us to play less zone and more man this year. And then Bronco will really be able to get creative with that defense. Read:aggressive.

Whether you conisder the Orlando view the objective - unbiased, 3rd-party view, the snobby east coast biased view, the view of someone who watched too many reruns of the last year Florida State at BYU game, or an uninformed view - it is one measuring stick. Quite frankly - I found it to be in the range of what I would call realistic views. But it pointed out the obvious holes and did lack the optimism that the second, obviously biased, but also obviously informed, view provided.



As a BYU Fan the 2nd article started to give me more hope than I have had up until now. The Total Blue Sports vido clip, with the Harvey Unga interview made while he was still going to be playing next year, and the Doman quote that Harvey was the most valuable player on the team - well that one hurt. Not to judge - I was not perfect either - but wow Harvery we are gong to miss you on and off the field.



The interview of RIley and the comments about Lark having the ideal frame and combination of running and passing skills - while being the 3rd runner at the moment, and the comment about Grit for our 4th string QB makes me think someone will step up and probably several will contribute over the next several years - given injuries, etc.



What does it all boil down to? I can't wait for Sept 4th to find out just what we have. I hope BYU is focused on stopping mobile QBs that can throw. They will face two of them early - Locker and the FSU guy - yeah - Ponder that. They will face Dalton later. They better have that figured out.



BYU has possible answers to fill all of the holes and some of those answers will work out. There are just so many of them.

I've gotta hand it to Bronco. He has built it the right way. LaVell had some really good defenses that didn't get props because the offenses were so good.

Speed is the answer and we have more on D than we have had in a long time. The question is how well we can harness that speed. The inexperience we have will hurt us a bit in the beginning but the end of the season we will look very good.

What bugs me is how low so many of the other mwc teams are ranked. They are killing the conference. We need them to do what sdsu appears to be doing and stepping it up. They need to stop playing these really good teams out of conference just for the pay out and play somebody they can beat.
