Our Own Bluebrotha Making Some Serious Claims...

I had one additional conversation as of two hours ago and learned that yes, BYU will give the MWC until 2011. But after that time they will be fully prepared, with all the necessary contracts for TV and team schedules signed and done. They are preparing for independence status as early as the 2012 season because they predict the MWC won't be AQ and by then they'll know for sure.


Giving the MWC 'til 2011 for what? To get a bigger TV contract? Or is it just a timeline to expect BYU to be announcing its departure from the MWC?

Ooooohhhh I'm so excited! I can see those future schedules full of MWC and WAC teams now (oh, wait, it already is!). And having an exclusive contract to play in the Vegas bowl every year against...the MWC champion! I can't wait (and you thought 5 straight years was annoying).



Look...BYU is NOT going indy. Period. It's not going to happen. If Holmoe is even floating this stuff around (I'm not saying he is or he isn't - cuz I have no stinking clue), but IF he is, then its a bluff. Just to try to get Thompson and Friends to let him set up his own TV contract, or network, etc.



Going indy would be a complete disaster. There's a reason why teams like Miami, Penn St, etc fled to conferences. Because being Indy (unless you're ND) is a nightmare. And we'd end up playing pretty much the same schedule, with a healthy smattering of D-1AA schools thrown in. Because high-profile (read BCS-AQ teams) are NOT going to interrupt their Conference schedules to play BYU.



I'll admit - going indy is kind of fun to think about - but in reality, it's NOT going to happen.

Holme has repeatedly stated publicly that it is economically unfeasable to go independant and that BYU has no intention of doing so. And that anyone that suggests it is ignorant to what it takes to be independent in football. I take that as a fairly strong indication that BYU is not considering it even as an option at this point. Someone is either breathing or blowing blue smoke :).

I feel that if the MWC does not get the AQ this time, it never will. Hair will need to get agressive and go to Option 2 and add some of the best available teams and send a couple of the worst to the WAC. Option 1 is to just win.

Hi Mr. AD from ____ University, would you be willing to sign a contract to play us in November 2012 just in case the MWC doesn't get AQ status. However, if we do get AQ status or invited to the Big XII will cancel. So what do you say? No? Huh :roll:

OK, you sold me. If these schedules represent what an independent BYU has to look forward to, let's not!

Aloha folks



This is the kind of schedule it takes to make it to a BCS Bowl or have a prayer at the NC. The SEC fattens itself up on lower division teams OOC so its teams all have good records so it can claim it has a strong conference schedule while playing far more home games than road games and rarely leaves the home state (check out Florida if you don't know who I am talking about). Then they lose to Bama who has a similar arrangment and Bama goes to the NC and Florida gets another BCS bowl. If Bama loses to Florida - role swap and then the Utes kill Bama cuz Bama isn't all it is cracked up to be. Same thing for Texas and Oklahoma most years.



Notre Dame, generally plays a very tough schedule. Look where that has gotten them. When is the last time ND played for a NC. When do you think they will do it again - unless they do what they finally got smart and started to do. You will find a litle more Army, Air Force, and Navy mixed into their schedule and less trips to the West coast over time. You may even find the Pukes on there.



You cannot play Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Michigan State, Purdue, Stanford, etc., etc., week after week and not lose a few. Nobody can and nobody does.



Quite frankly, the WAC gig worked quite well for BSU and even Hawaii once. The MWC gig worked well for Utah twice and TCU once.



We as BYU fans ought to shut up and bite our tongues collectively until we actually beat all of the teams on our schedule once or twice in a row. Then if we don't get our NC bid - complain about hte injustice of it all.



Last year, we lost twice and had all we could handle with Oklahoma, Utah and New Mexico.



Would you really have liked to beef that schedule up with say a USC on the road and Texas on the road (cuz they won't do home and away if they even play us at all).



I was never fond of Al Davis - but he had sound advice. JUST WIN BABY!

That raises another question for people dogging the mwc and wanting to go Indy. Why do people think we are above the MWC when we don't even win it year in and year out?

Fanbase size. The idea is that BYU deserves to make more money than Wyoming, because people actually want to watch us on TV.
