BYU Plateau?

I've heard and read on several media outlets that BYU has reached a plateau of achievement. Beating occasional Oklahoma's and winning smaller bowl games every now and then. I haven't heard any inspiring words from Bronco in a long time, ie...the best is yet to come, of course why would we in July? But it has been a long time since the MC promise.



Our recruiting class I think speaks for itself regarding a future at hitting the BcS. Next year promises more speed and size on defense, personnel we haven't been able to get are coming without having to change the HC or conference we play in.



Next year may be ugly, but I'm thinking we'll be very happy with the next 3-4 years.

Looking at the talent that is finally coming in, it's WAY too early to be calling this a plateau. We've seen what Bronco could do with Crowton's bare cupboards, and what he could do with the players who wanted to take a chance at a character-first school with no recent history of winning.



Now we get to see what Bronco can do with players who want to play at a character-first school that hasn't lost more than 3 games in any of the past four seasons.



I'd hold my tongue until the end of the 2011 seasons before I start talking plateaus.

I'm even willing to wait until 2012, 2013 or even 2014 and see what Heaps and the 2010 class can do as juniors and seniors.

Those people are going to look like geniuses next season (at least think they are) and every game will be a struggle for the Cougs to win (yet every game is winnable too).. we'll still be competitive and get a bowl game.. not bad for a reloading year.



There has always been a difference in perception between those in the know at BYU and the rest of the sports world.



The belief that BYU has plateaud or peaked is shared by many on the outside; and the 2010 season will only continue to instilll that belief (we're not going to win double digits games next year... not going to happen) but anyone with any idea of the talent we now have and the system that's in place knows that not only have we not plateaud, or even peaked yet.



Personally I think "plateau" is a bit of a complement. There aren't a dozen teams in college football that have had the type of sustained performance that BYU has had recently.



Considering the fact that we have to juggle missionaries, and can't recruit outside of the honor code; the fact that we've managed the recent success, beaten top 25 teams, and brought in our best recruiting class ever (a class that hasn't yet even seen the field in a game that matters) ; it's laughable to think that we've already seen our best days.



The best is yet to come. Anyone that doesn't see that isn't paying attention.



Again, this year is going to be rough, it's a talented team that will make youthful mistakes and has a few holes that will be exploited. Everything will be a struggle. In spite of that, we'll be favored in every game but TCU and FSU.

Instead of plateaued I would say floored. This year's loss total will be the most in a long time.

I wonder if those who think BYU "plateaued" also think so because the PAC-10 "passed over" BYU to take Utah. They may think that since the PAC-10 took Utah and not BYU it must be for football reasons and that Utah must obviously have the most upside and room for growth.



When in reality BYU has neither plateaued and football as a reason to invite the Utes was relatively low on the list.

Those who say we've plateaued are only looking at win/loss. Look at the number of ranked teams we have played each year over the years Bronco has coached. The fact that we've maintained 10 win seasons while upgrading our schedule tells me there is no plateau here.
