Is anyone disappointed about Utah moving on?

I thought I would be pretty bummed if Utah went to a BCS conference and we didn't, but since the decision was made, I have felt pretty happy about it. I'm actually excited that we may be able to unburden ourselves of such a close association with Utah, its liberating to not have that anchor around our necks. I'm hoping this move makes them feel less like they have to prove something when they play us and will become a little more civilized (probably won't happen). We also get to tack on another BCS win each time we beat them.

The only downside I see to their moving on is the effect is has on the conference. We would have been strong contenders for auto-qual in the BCS. Aside from that I am glad to see the Utes moving on. I can't wait to be separated from them. The future is bright in my eyes . . . am I alone or do some of you feel as liberated as I do?

It's bad for the MWC, but it will be good for everything else in Utah.

I think the worst thing about the Utah move is that it gives them something else to use as smack fodder when ranting against cougar fans.

I feel your pain. If we beat TCU and BSU and go to the BC$ Bowl then it won't matter. If we don't we will constantly hear it no matter how well they do. So I guess the bottom line is we just need to take care of business on the field.

Go Cougs!

My only disappointment is that they won't be there in 2011. Just one year with 4 top 25 teams would have been an exciting race, lots of media attention and exposure and a jump start to AQ. That would have been an awesome conference.

My biggest issue with the :utard: going to the pac-nada is the immediate impact it will have on recruiting. If you don't think it will have an impact, don't kid yourself.

I'm also disgusted that there is this sudden perception that :utard: is now "legitimate" in the national media.

And finally, I'm sick of the :utard: fans parading around, beating their chests like they just accomplished something. you'd think they just won the National Championship or something.

Good riddance. Frankly, I don't care what Utah does, but I believe the U will regret this move--in a few years. Let's say they get close, but miss out on a bowl game for the next five years, and never win the Pac-10.

Meanwhile, let's say BYU goes to a bowl game every year, and one or two (hopefully) BCS bowl games. This would gall the Utes like crazy, and they'd be hating life.

Actually, the Pac-10 is a bit down, in my view. USC is on probation, UCLA has yet to emerge, ASU hasn't done much in recent years. However, Stanford is on the rise, Cal is always a very good team. Wash and Wash ST are nothing to worry about. Oregon and Ore St are pretty good, but the ducks have some issues. It will be interesting to see, Utah will win some of those games, but to believe Utah is an elite Pac-10 team right now is nonsense.

I am unconvinced the Utah in the Pac-10 will hurt BYU's recruiting; I just don't see that happening, and I don't see it being much of a plus for them either. The California kids still want to play on the west coast, not Utah. And the kids that Bronco recruits are not going to suddenly want to play for Utah, just because... I think things won't change much, and it might even end up being a plus for BYU. ONly time will tell.

Disappointed? No.

Jealous? Heck yeah.

I'm a little disappointed because I thought/hoped with the addition of Boise, we'd have four legit top-25 teams in the conference. That's about as many as any of the "power" conferences. Sure our dregs are awful, but our top tier would have been elite.

Bingo! If the Yewts stayed in the MWC - we could legitimately claim "parity" with other elite conferences. The Utah exit hurts the MWC. It will also hurt BYU recruiting "in-state" for both Football & Basketball. We now have to compete w/ a PAC-10 - BCS school in recruiting. Damnit!!!

I will miss the rivalry. I will get angry when the Yewts steal players from us. I won't miss the arrogant Yewt snotty Gordie Monson type crap! Good bye scuzz balls!!!!

It affects us in FB recruiting for a couple years. It won't/shouldn't affect us much in BBall, because you don't need a BCS to get to the NT, since they have a real national championship. Football it will, but not for long, because we are going to continue to dominate, and the Utes will hover in the .500 - .750 range for the next 5 years. The recruiting boost they have now will fade in 2 years when they become irrelevant on a national level. And besides all of this, any of this money they eventually get isn't going to the FB program. It is going to the rest of the sports that the pukes are abysmal at on a MWC level (and we are not national contenders by any stretch of the imagination - so that is really bad...) like baseball, softball, track and field, volleyball (don't even have a mens), soccer, etc. They are in sooo much trouble there, that I laugh myself to sleep thinking that they will be sub .500 in bball, 5 wins or less in baseball (20+ game season), there softball has been decent but the Pac is All Pro in softball, same thing with soccer. They are in such trouble, even if the football does well, and it won't.

IF BYU got an invite instead, it would have done wonders for our recruiting, way more so than the pukes. It brings them close to our level (temporarily) but for us, we would have been put in a different league entirely.

As far as the utes being less vitriolic, don't hold your breath. All you have to do is click on any lds related story on ksl, or even to the revolving links on the side, and read the first 5 Ute posts to see that it will never end. If anything, I think it'll get worse in the next 2-3 years, since they will stop playing us, but still KNOW IN THEIR MIND WITHOUT A DOUBT, that they are better than us. Again, a few in conference losing seasons will cure all of this. Patience, my friends... They will get theirs, and we will get ours.

BYU just has to continue what they're doing and the Big 12* will be knocking on their door soon enough. In the meantime, if Boise State and others can do it from a nobody conference then we certainly can in a somebody conference; especially considering our recent recruiting efforts.

My feeling has been from day one that Utah cannot sustain a .500 season in the Pac 10 with back to back to back to back competitive games. Whittingham is good at getting his team up for 1,2 games a year and then loses 27-0 to the UNLVs of the world at the same time. I'm glad to get rid of Utah; and I think it won't be long before the Big 12 comes a calling. The college football world won't be able to ignore the last few recruiting classes once they're experienced.

So what if a few fans have jumped on the Ute bandwagon... they still can't' sell out rice-chex without our help.

that gives me an idea (albeit a crazy one). Why don't we just boycott Rice-Eccles as a Y fanbase, to show our distaste to them taking off (among other things)? I'm sure there are a lot of people that would still want to go, but it's televised, right? Just watch it at home, and don't give them the revenue. Make a statement that we don't support them or care about them, and it is over from here.

Not attending their games is a given. How would they explain empty seats?

right, but I mean, THIS YEAR while they are still in the MWC. Boycott the BYU vs. Utah game in Rice-Eccles and just catch it on tv. I wonder if this has any weight with anyone else out there? The cougs will hit them in the face on the field, and maybe we can make a statement off the field too. Just watch it, and don't attend. Don't give them the benefit of a sellout for our last game. (And by last game, I mean last game. The only way Utah plays us - a very strong OOC member- is if we are killing them in head to head recruiting, and they need to prove "dominance" . But that being said, they don't play us in Football for the next 5 years, guaranteed)

From what I've read, Nebraska going to the Big 10 hurts the MWC more than Utah leaving. Our measurements against the BCS criteria were effectively the same with and without Utah.

Somewhat disappointed that the rivalry game won't mean quite as much any more, but mostly jealous--not of their conference but of their money and status/recognition.

I do think the Yewt move will affect basketball recruiting. Not in a devastating way - but it will cause "some" top Utah high school recruits to stop & think. The Cougs may even lose some good ones. Yes basketball does not have a BCS boondoggle. There is a real championship playoff & it is fair - but.

Here's my logic - if you are a talented Utah BB athlete w/ NBA aspirations - exposure on a "big media stage" is important. Let's face it - media bias exists. The MWC gets ignored compared to other "elite" conferences. If you choose the U, you can "showcase" your talents against UCLA, Stanford, Az. & Az. St., etc. You will be on local & National TV, and be written about in large circulation newspapers (the L.A. Times - So Cal's communist rag, etc.). By choosing the Yewts - you are now get big time National media exposure - not a bad thing for an aspiring athlete.

I don't think it will devastate the Y's Football or Basketball. I do think we'll lose some "wobblers" that would have chosen the Y if the Yewts were still in the MWC. Instead, they'll chase the spotlight.

absolutely agree. Slight recruiting advantage, PROVIDED that they can finish a season above .500 in conference. Not really a likely scenario in the next 5 years, so slight advantage, denied!
