Did Utah and BYU have an agreement?

I know for a FACT that there was an "agreement" (at least verbally) between the presidents of both BYU and Utah to stick together through thick and thin.

If this is true can BYU/MWC sue Utah and get an injunction to stop them from moving into the PAC-10 for the 2011 season? Then we could count their record for the AQ. Also CU might not get out of the BIG12 until 2012. Maybe the PAC would want Utah to delay a year.

That is just bogus talk by someone. If they know for a fact, they could quote a source. Otherwise, just BS. Not sure why either school would agree to that type of deal.



Cougarboard is full of BS. Like the poster who said BYU would get in the Big 12 TODAY, June 30th. That one is full of holes now too. Still could happen, but they obviously took some info, inflated it to sound like they wee in the know. Cougarboard rumors are usually false.

Courts don't like injunctions. IF there is a valid contract in place, then BYU could damages something along the lines of the difference between what BYU would have earned with Utah in the MWC and what they earn without Utah in the MWC.

Verbal agreements don't mean jack. If it's not in writing it didn't happen. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a gentleman's agreement. But again, it doesn't mean anything. Utah did what Utah should have done: look out for Utah's interest first and foremost.

My guess is that if BYU had been offered a spot by the B12 a month ago, they would have jumped to say yes, and wouldn't have bothered to look around at what was happening to Utah...

There was an agreement. It was publically discussed. Doesn't really matter, because if it was us, instead of them, we go. Any reasonable person would make the same decision.

Yes. BYU describes Utah as flashes in a pan, fickle fans, and classless. And of course Utah agreed.

I am not so sure that BYU makes the same decision. I have a sneaking hunch that if BYU would have been offered, the Board of Trustees would have responded "Not without Utah."

It's a verbal agreement, known as a gentlemen's agreement, which is only valid if both parties are gentlemen...and guess who's not...

I think there was an agreement for years. BYU has been trying to get into the Pac-10 since the 1970s. At some point, it appears that Utah got BYU to commit to taking them along. Ultimately, Utah did what is best for Utah and BYU should have been doing what was best for BYU. So, if the Little X comes along.....
