"Gaining Colorado is absolutely meaningless for TV purposes," said a consultant who has negotiated TV deals for college conferences. "And gaining Utah is close to meaningless."

His reasoning: Because neither school has a large national following, ESPN and FSN won't have any reason to bid more than they would for the 10-team league."

Myabe they blew the expansion thing.

He believes Colorado and Utah will bring more to the conference than a football title game

It's funny Scott believes that Utah would add so much more. I thought he was being smart when he was shooting for the stars, by going after Texas and Co., but when he fell short and asked Utah afterwards, Hahahaha.

Does he actually believe the whole Utah market are Ute fans??? He's up in the "trees" on this one. At least 50% are Cougar fans, and at least half of those have no desire to watch Utah on tv.

Amen to that. People keep talking about adding markets and increasing TV viewership by getting more households in the conference but didn't someone somewhere at some point in the process raise their hand and ask if adding Utah to the Pac-10 would really deliver the entire SLC market? Just because there are people in the same city as Utah doesn't mean they'll be watching on Saturday. You can bet the guys who will be (not) forking out the money for ad-space will be doing their homework on this.

I think it has more to do with getting to 12 teams and adding one of the growing markets, along with Denver.

SLC and Denver are growing, and not just locals, but with people from traditional PAC10 regions, which means more FUTURE TV subscribers. Scott did say he was looking 50 years into the future with this, not a few years from now.

The Utes and Buffs may not be the favorite team in their market, but lots of fans from other PAC10 schools are moving to those markets to live, which means more subscribers and not for the Utes or Buffs.

Do you know what I mean? I realize I didn't say that very well.

Hey PurpleReign, that Todd Marinovich quote is great--that was a good day for UW FB...but how do you know he was not simply high that day and seeing purple for a different reason? :)

If Scott truly was looking 50 years ahead, he is a moron...To anticipate the college FB market that far into the future is nonsensical....

You have to realize that as Cougar fans, we look at a conference selecting Utah over BYU and claiming to get more TV sets both locally and nationally as the same as a conference selecting Purdue over Notre Dame and making the same claim!

I couldn't have said it any better myself. Scott's rolling the dice that we as Cougar fans will actually turn on the TV and watch the :utard: s. I for one will NOT.

unfortunately I'm going to disagree. If the :utard: shows up on ESPN just when you happen to turn the TV on, many people will sit and watch. for CF fans and borderline red/blue fans, they'll watch the games that are on. Make no mistake, availability does increase viewership.

I follow, but if Scott tells you he knows what college sports and relocation trends are going to be like 50 years from now be sure to ask him what ESPN's (Disney's) stock price is going to be in a week, if he knows that, the Pac-10 is good to go.
