Another Te'o gone?

Looks like we're out another Te'o. We just can't seem to keep these guys around.

BYU running back-turned-linebacker Malosi Te'o is living back home in Hawaii and it appears he may stay in the islands and not return to the Cougars. Word I get from Provo is that while Te'o has yet to make a final decision, he is considering walking on at the University of Hawaii.

If I had to guess, playing time is the issue. I bet he is not in the rotation right now and wants to be, so he is heading out. Did he RS last year, or is he free to transfer right to Hawaii after his mission?

Good grief!! We'll have to see how this really plays out. But - if he "bolts" and walks out on his team - good riddance!!!! This Teo clan has to be the most "self serving", "wishy-washy" bunch I've followed in my life.



My advice - grow a spine, make a decision, follow through & keep a commitment!!!!!!!

Note to BYU: Avoid the Teo clan. They won't commit to you, play for you, or stay with you.

Wondering if he is gone already, and his schollie for 2010 was given to DeQuan Everett? To land that kid, we had to be able to offer a full, and it had to come from somewhere, right? And I know we are short on them right now, so Te'o leaving might have been a good thing.

Does not matter he will have to sit out a year before he could play. I wish he could have gone back to UNLV and play right away.

Shiloah did not serve a mission.. (keep in mind that there are things that kids can do prior to enrolling at BYU that won't preclude their acceptance but can preclude a mission... for example, pre-marital sex before enrolling at BYU wont' neccessarily keep you from attending BYU, but it currently disallows you from going on a mission, and of course it'll get you booted after you sign the honor code... there are a couple of kids in our 2010 class that I fear will have trouble staying away from the girls now that they're at BYU; though this is always a fear when you're a BYU fan)



To be honest, I think Malosi was a tweener D1 player that was a concession to help convince Manti to chose BYU (2 scholarships to get a player with the talent of Manti is not a terrible thing, Malosi coudl play special teams, scout team and may eventually have seen the field at tailback, but if it had helped reel in Manti then it woudl have been a good investment). BYU also scheduled a Hawaii series during the recruitment of Manti.



They laid out the red carpet for the Manti and his extended family and all they got was empty beer cans, a dui from his cousin, and then defections from commitments in Haoli Jamora and Kona Schwenke... Kahuku has been a major headache the last couple years.... (though Malosi and Manti didnt' finish their careers at Kahuku, we all know their clan runs deep there)

No, the DeQuann commit came nearly right after 2010 LOI day as I recall. Malosi's walking out on BYU if true is much more recent. What this could do is provide the scholarship needed for Jacob Murphy if that situation is still as volatile as rumored to be. Message boards have a way of making it seem like these kids left after getting pissed off or feeling like they have been mistreated but I bet more often than not, it's a mutual agreement between the coaches and players that the kid would be better off somewhere else. That said, I really do think there is mounds of evidence to suggest that players are better off sticking it out with the original school they signed with than transferring part way through their eligibility. I can think of very few who got playing time at their new school and even fewer who made it to the NFL. Malosi will still have to sit out a year and will be playing without a scholarship now, at least initially, and there's still no guarantee that he won't be riding the pine for the rainbow warriors too. I really don't get what is with these kids who think that if they don't start in year one that it's time to move on. I really don't get why you would leave a scholarship at one place to go somewhere else when you are a borderline D1 prospect anyway. I'd take the great and free education BYU offers and enjoy practice and hope that I eventually got to see the field some.



Jacob Bower, Cade Cooper, Sam Doman, Gary Nagy, Matt Ah You, Isley Filiaga are just a handful of guys who transfered out and who's careers never amounted to anything else. We'll see what kind of impact guys like Jerry Bruner, Brannon Brooks, and G Pittman make.



Then there are names like Brandon Doman, Steve Young who bided their time deep on the depth chart and eventually got their chance, and became entrenched in Cougar lore.

Dude is a married RM with kids. Hate to see it go down this way for him, but it's his life.

The star that got moved to linebacker? I don't think so... the kid was going to be a career special teamer

He was certainly an "athlete" that had a bit more speed than we are used to. That fact alone kind of put fans on notice that we might have something there. That said, Tevita Hola had a great camp his first spring in the program too and never really materialized for us. I'm sure there are a bunch of other examples too of guys that impress early but just never pick up the scheme or whatever else keeps them from reaching their potential.
