Future Texas Sports Network compared to BYUTV, The Mtn

I wonder if Texas has enough programming to make the off season watchable. At least BYU-TV has Church documentaries, BYU programming, Education Week, and Conference.



The problem with BYU-TV is its free and, I assume, tax-free status. That's probably why every cable system in the country carries it: BYU gives it away for free. Any Joe with a C-band sat can point the thing at the sky and get BYU-TV for free. The website is top-notch streaming as well. I would guess that if it were to make a profit the University would have to charge to carry the channel, which I doubt many cable companies are willing to pay.

They plan on making their network very strongly educationally-based as well. Lots of academic shows, featuring different classes, research, and professors. At least that's what I understand.

BYUTV does not make any money. They are not allowed to run ads, therefore, they can not generate any money. They would have to change how the station is set up, but I believe it is similar to public access and enjoys certain benefits as a result that BYU probably doesn't want to give up.

This may be off point, but very proud indeed. Also proud of the fact that our tuition is so cheap as well, thanks to the church and its faithful tithe payers. Gotta say that those who are fortunate enought to attend BYU are getting a steal of an education when compared to other universities and the cost of attending them. Once I realized this, I appreciated my education at BYU far more than I did before.

Could the school generate a separate television station? One that is kept "non profit" and another they could market complete with streaming internet, ads, etc. With more and more devices being internet capable they could really push the anytime anywhere mantra.

New channel yes but then you have to get the cable/satellite systems to pick it up.
